MLB Wild Card Series Viewership Up 64%

Major League Baseball is pleased with the television viewership of its first series’ new format.

ESPN’s exclusive coverage of of the Wild Card games featured nine games from October 7-9 and averaged 2.8 million viewers. That’s up 64% from the previous MLB Wild Card Series round in 2020 which included 18 games.

Despite going up against NBC’s Sunday Night Football, ESPN was still able to attract 4 million viewers fir Game 3 of the New York Mets vs. San Diego Padres.

“We’re exceedingly happy with the performance of this event. Our nine games reached more than 35 million fans and viewership overall was up 64 percent from the 2020 rendition of this first round series,” said Rick Mace, ESPN’s senior manager, programming and acquisitions. “We consider this a fantastic start to our exclusive, annual Wild Card Series package and a strong indicator that these will only increase in future years with the possibility of more game 3s.”

Four of the nine games averaged over 3 million viewers with Game 3 of Mets-Padres being the most-watched game. The least-watched was Game 1 of Tampa-Cleveland which drew 1.8 million viewers.

“Fans have responded very positively to the new Postseason format,” MLB’s chief revenue officer Noah Garden said. “There is an interesting mix of clubs competing in games that have been tense and exciting.  And we’re seeing outstanding performances from an incredible group of players.  We’re happy to see the fans responding to the great competition on the field.”

Michelle Beadle, Shams Charania, Chandler Parsons Launching New FanDuel TV Show

FanDuel is continuing to grow its FanDuel TV network with a brand new show.

Michelle Beadle, Shams Charania and Chandler Parsons are teaming up to create a brand new show called Run It Back and will air on Mondays. Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 10a ET.

The New York Post reports that Beadle and Parsons will discuss the latest NBA news and Charania will contribute with insider information.

Charania becomes the first news breaker-type personality to sign a deal wo align with a sports betting outlet.

FanDuel TV is adding the show to its lineup that recent launched Up and Adams with Kay Adams last month.

KNX Announces New LA’S Morning News Crew After Dick Helton Retirement

KNX has announced its new morning drive crew after the retirement of longtime anchor Dick Helton.

Mike Simpson will pair with Vicky Moore and Jennifer York to host LA’s Morning News.

“There’s something very special about waking up a region as large and dynamic as this one,” said Simpson. “It’s about getting people out the door and keeping them company on their commute with what they need to know. I’m beyond thrilled to start working with Vicky, Jen and the entire team. Here’s to multiple alarm clocks!”

Simpson joined KNX News in 2015, and has co-anchored the afternoon news. He also has a podcast called I’ve Got Questions with Mike Simpson.

Moore has hosted mornings on KNX since 2004, while Jennifer York has worked on the show for more than a decade.

“Mike, Vicky, and Jen are the perfect team to build upon the legacy of integrity, credibility, and humanity in our great shared experience – the morning commute in LA.,” said Audacy Southern California Regional President Jeff Federman. “We’d also like to extend our gratitude to Dick, as his decades of service to our communities are unrivaled.”

LA’s Morning News with Simpson, Moore, and York will be heard beginning Monday from 5:00-10:00 AM.

Rich Zeoli: Dasha Burns Did Nothing Wrong

Much has been made, from both sides of the political aisle, about the reporting done by NBC News correspondent Dasha Burns during her interview with Senate candidate John Fetterman (D-PA). 1210 WPHT afternoon host Rich Zeoli made his comments known Thursday.

Fetterman suffered a stroke in May of this year, and has dealt with “audio processing issues”, which required him to utilize closed captioning during his interview with Burns.

During her report, Burns said before closed captioning was used, it seemed as if Fetterman wasn’t able to understand her while the two conversed before the interview.

Zeoli said criticism of Burns is unwarranted.

“The NBC reporter is now coming under fire for simply doing her job and asking Fetterman questions one-on-one. She’s now being criticized for her observations on John Fetterman. Because he’s a Democrat. And because he’s a Democrat, this reporter can’t make observations about how he’s doing. Oh no, no, no. That’s media outrage. How dare you? How dare you suggest that a report could report back on the health status of a candidate who refuses to release his medical records,” Zeoli sarcastically said.

94WIP morning host Angelo Cataldi has long made known his dislike of NBC analyst Cris Collinsworth. Cataldi welcomed Collinsworth’s Sunday Night Football partner Mike Tirico to his show and asked for reasons he should like the former Bengal wide receiver.

“I love Cris. He’s a friend,” Tirico said. “Here’s what you’d like. You’re still working. You’re going in and working. You never lay it up. Every week, Cris works his ass off. Details. He never leaves a stone unturned. You know why you sometimes don’t like Cris? Because he tells the truth.”

“I dunno. Maybe I don’t like him because he seems one-sided against my team,” Cataldi admitted.

“You know what’s funny? There are 31 other fan bases that feel the same way!”, Tirico said. “We’re six weeks into a partnership. You think I’m gonna come on the show and trash my buddy?”, the Sunday Night Football announcer joked.

Cataldi concluded the interview by asking Tirico what the better story is for NBC, and he said the Eagles being undefeated when they play the Packers in a few weeks would be good, but he was about to be on a show in Dallas and would say the exact opposite statement.

Lee Corso Returns to College GameDay Set After Two-Week Absence

Lee Corso appears to be ready to return to the ESPN College GameDay travelling set this weekend in Knoxville.

This is according to ESPN PR, who tweeted a photo of Corso preparing for the show with Drew Gallagher, the coordinating producer of GameDay.

Corso had missed the last two weeks after waking up at the Clemson site feeling under the weather. He opted to return home to Florida and focus on getting better. Corso also missed last week’s edition of the show in Lawrence, Kansas.

However, the streak of absences is over and it appears Corso is ready to don some headgear in Knoxville, Tennessee ahead of the Alabama-Tennessee matchup.

Former Razorbacks Quarterback Matt Jones Joins ESPN Arkansas

ESPN Arkansas is adding a local quarterback legend to its lineup of shows beginning on Monday.

Jones will join Halftime with Phil Elson and will co-host the midday show airing from 11a-2p CT.

“I am excited about the opportunity to be back on the air as part of the talented team of people at ESPN Arkansas,” Matt Jones said. “Being able to talk about the Razorbacks with Phil Elson every day on the show will be fun and I appreciate Tommy, and everyone involved for making this a reality.”

Jones grew up in Van Buren, Arkansas and played with the Razorbacks from 2001 to 2004, starting at quarterback from 2002 to 2004. He was drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars with the 21st pick in the 2005 NFL Draft.

“The story of Razorback Football over the past 25 seasons cannot be told without a few chapters being written about Matt Jones” Tommy Craft, General Manager ESPN Arkansas said. “Razorbacks fans everywhere have vivid memories of Matt during his playing days, and we are excited to have him on our team to talk with the people of Arkansas every day. Matt will be able to give all of us his unique insights as a former football and basketball player at Arkansas and I can’t wait to hear him with Phil on Halftime.”

In addition to co-hosting Halftime, Jones will also be appearing on other programs and podcasts produced by ESPN Arkansas.

Noah Eagle To Call First NFL Main Broadcast Game on FOX

Noah Eagle will cross another broadcasting first off his list this weekend.

The 25-year-old will be on the FOX broadcast of the 49ers-Falcons game on Sunday. He will work alongside Mark Schlereth and Kristina Pink on the broadcast. He is filling-in for Adam Amin who is occupied with the network’s NLDS coverage of the Dodgers-Padres series which will be playing it’s fourth game on Saturday evening.

Eagle has had plenty of opportunities to broadcast major sports including the NFL itself when he called the Nickelodeon alternate NFL broadcast in each of the last two seasons.

Alex Jones: Joe Rogan Gets ‘Too Much Heat’ When I’m On His Podcast

Alex Jones was recently on the Louder With Crowder podcast, and the InfoWars host said he has a great relationship with podcast host Joe Rogan, but knows it doesn’t help Rogan when he has Jones on the show.

“When’s Rogan gonna have you on his show? Why aren’t you doing his show today?” Crowder asked.

“I don’t wanna be mean to Joe,” Jones said. “Joe told me last time — I was on the show was two years ago and it was one of the biggest shows he ever did. Joe’s like, ‘Yeah, we’ll have you on in a couple months’. Couple months. Couple months. And then you know, it’s pretty obvious what’s going on. Just a little too much heat for Joe to have me on, which is fine.”

Jones then said he and Rogan went to dinner a few weeks ago and asked the podcast host to allow him on his show to discuss his civil lawsuit against the families of Sandy Hook victims.

“We were out of dinner about a month ago, last time I hung out with him. And it’s his pet peeve not to bring it up. And I just said, ‘Man, it would really help me with this upcoming court case, cause the whole media’s against me, if I could get on there and explain things.’ And he just said, ‘Alex, you got, you know — there’s too much craziness going on. Let’s just get through this. We’ll talk about it later,’” Jones said.

He then added it’s a matter of courage to allow him on someone’s show.

“On the courage scale, Steven Crowder is a ten. Alex Jones is a ten. And Joe Rogan’s an eight,” Jones said. “And I’ll take an eight all day over our enemies that are at a zero. And so I’m nothing but thankful to Joe for all the heat he’s taken having me on and so I totally understand it.”

Mike Felger: Layoffs At 98.5 The Sports Hub ‘Frustrating And Sobering’

The layoffs across the country at Beasley Media stations hit one of the company’s most successful stations last week. Despite its success in ratings and revenue, 98.5 The Sports Hub was forced to part ways with Christian Arcand and Mike Lockhart. Mike Felger talked about the move Thursday night.

“Radio… apparently is in trouble, we’re finding out,” he said on The Off Air Show, a Facebook stream he hosts on Thursdays with Jim Murray.

A member of the audience asked directly about Arcand and Lockhart. Felger said he wished he had an answer before elaborating on his shock at the announcement.

“What makes it so frustrating and sobering for us at the station, is that this station could not be more successful,” he said. “You just couldn’t… you can’t get better ratings than we get.”

The Boston Herald reports that there is some speculation amongst conspiracy theorists regarding the comment. The feed went dark after the comments. A message from the station that read “Sorry everyone! Technical difficulties. See you all next week,” popped up in the comment section shortly after.

The success of 98.5 The Sports Hub has been well-documented at this site and many others. In addition to consistently strong ratings performance, the station is one of the top five revenue generators in the country.
