Ted Cruz Moving Podcast to iHeartMedia

0

iHeartMedia has acquired the rights to the Verdict with Ted Cruz podcast, which will see the Republican Senator’s podcast air on the broadcaster’s popular iHeartRadio app.

“An offer has come in from iHeartRadio to take this show to a huge national audience — it’s already obviously at a national audience on podcast, but on radio stations,” co-host Michael Knowles said during the podcast announcing the move, adding “iHeart has a gigantic network” and can “fund production” as well as “dump a whole bunch of money into marketing”.

The move, will see Cruz leave his former co-host behind. Knowles works full-time for The Daily Wire, so he cannot accompany Cruz to iHeartMedia. He will be replaced on the podcast by Ben Ferguson, who currently hosts The Ben Freguson Podcast for iHeart.

According to Chartable.com, Verdict with Ted Cruz is the 14th most popular political podcast, and the 49th largest news podcast.

Bob Costas Announcing ALDS For TBS

0

TBS has announced that Bob Costas will serve as its lead play-by-play announcer for the American League Divisional Series between the New York Yankees and Cleveland Guardians.

Costas will be joined by analyst Ron Darling and reporter Lauren Shehadi for the series which begins Tuesday.

It marks the first time the 70-year-old will announce a complete playoff series since 2000. MLB Network has periodically aired a single game of a playoff series, allowing Costas to work in the postseason, but he will announce the entire series for TBS.

Costas told The Athletic’s Richard Deitsch announcing the entire series “allows you to get into a rhythm. It isn’t quite like playing, but it’s the closest thing to it. You remember every pitch. So if something happens in Game 3 and it somehow connects to some tension from Game 1, you’re on top of it in the way that a good local announcer would be.”

Costas will also serve as the studio host for TBS’ coverage of the American League Championship Series. Brian Anderson will serve as the play-by-play announcer for that series.

Rich Zeoli: Media Needs More Investigative Reporters

0

1210 WPHT afternoon host Rich Zeoli recently sat on a media panel to discuss the state of journalism in America and said both television and print publications need more investigative journalists and investigative journalism.

Friday during The Rich Zeoli Show, the host said “I think that too often a lot of the media — the corporate media, whatever you want to call it — they wind up telling people what they want to hear over and over and over again. They don’t challenge the audience at all. They don’t bother doing any investigative reporting in many instances. It’s almost like the same thing over and over again.”

“The biggest problem with corporate media is not always what they report and how they report, but what they don’t report,” Broad + Liberty CEO Terry Tracy added.

Zeoli lamented the lack of investigative reporters as we approach the midterm election, pointing out the recent revelations in regards to Hunter Biden should have been more widely reported in 2020 rather than 2022.

After abruptly ending news/talk programming last week, 810 KGO debuted as 810 The Spread Monday.

The Cumulus-owned station will air a mix of sports talk and sports betting programming, billing itself as “The Bay’s Best Bet on Sports”.

“810 The Spread joins our sports brands KNBR 680AM/104.5FM and 1050 KTCT for a trifecta of dynamic sports content across four signals and streaming everywhere,” Cumulus San Francisco Vice President and Market Manager Larry Blumhagen said. “We are excited about this new chapter and look forward to serving the Bay Area’s passionate sports fans in an incomparable way.”

Blumhagen added the decision wasn’t an easy one to end news/talk programming on KGO, which had once been a staple in the Bay Area.

“This is a bittersweet day for us, as it’s hard to say goodbye to the legendary KGO, which has been a part of listeners’ lives for so many years. We want to thank all the people who have been a part of KGO’s historic run these many years – and the listeners who loyally tuned in to the station. Times change, and we must change with them.”

The weekday lineup of 810 The Spread includes:

According a recent report from The Los Angeles Times, neither measure is expected to pass.

The Jim Bohannon Show will come to an end Friday evening.

Bohannon has battled undisclosed health problems this year, and made the decision to end his show. Rich Valdes will take over the 10:00 PM-1:00 AM timeslot for Westwood One.

“It’s been a great 40 years with Westwood One – the last 30 of which as host of ‘The Jim Bohannon Show.’ I’ve enjoyed every minute of our daily nighttime town hall with my guests, callers, and all of America. Now, I’d like to introduce Rich Valdes, a very bright, vibrant young man who will be taking over in the same tradition.”

Bohannon was inducted into the NAB Broadcasting Hall of Fame as well as the Missouri Broadcasters Association Hall of Fame.

“We are especially proud that Jim has been an invaluable member of our Westwood One family these many years – he is truly an industry legend,” said Westwood One President Suzanne Grimes. “As we pass the baton to Rich Valdes, we’re excited to bring a new name and voice to talk radio. We look forward to continuing our tradition of providing the best programming to our affiliates and listeners.”

Valdes has worked as a host and producer for some of talk radio’s largest stations and shows. After working as a host on 77WABC, Valdes joined The Mark Levin Show as a producer. He also hosts a weekend show, This Is America with Rich Valdes on 1210 WPHT in Philadelphia.

“No one can ever fill Jim’s shoes,” Valdes said. “I consider it a blessing and great honor to be part of the next generation of late-night talk show hosts, following the tradition of Jim Bohannon and Larry King.”

Cenk Uygur: Tucker Carlson Will Continue to Exploit Kanye West

0

On Friday, rapper Kanye West also known as “Ye,” appeared on Tucker Carlson’s Fox News show “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” where the two discussed various topics.

West made remarks that some deemed controversial and then followed up his appearance on Carlson’s show by going to social media, where he made antisemitic remarks. As a result, Instagram and Twitter have restricted his accounts

Meta, which owns Instagram, told NPR it pulled content that violated policies. However, it didn’t pinpoint which posts were responsible for resulting in Ye having his account restricted.

Following the antisemitic on social media, “The Young Turks” host Cenk Uygur went on Twitter to state that right-wing hosts like Carlson will continue to exploit Ye and give him a platform.

“I told you that @kanyewest was deeply disturbed and was going to do serious damage,” Uygur tweeted on Sunday

“Now he’s written that he is declaring war on Jewish people. That’s a genie you can’t put back in the bottle. Will right-wingers like @TuckerCarlson continue to exploit him anyway? Of course!!”

No further information on how long Ye will be locked out of his social media accounts or whether these outlets plan to ban him from using their platforms.

Fox News’ Trey Yingst Visits Liberated Ukrainian Village

0

Fox News reporter Trey Yingst told Shannon Bream Sunday that he was one of the first journalists to enter a village that was liberated by Ukrainian troops just days earlier.

FNC journalists have faced imminent danger while covering the war in Ukraine. In March, cameraman Pierre Zakrzewski was killed in Horenka while newsgathering with Benjamin Hall.

Hall was severely injured and had to be rescued by a team of trauma surgeons, special operations veterans, and intelligence community veterans.

“The village of Hlushkivka was liberated by Ukrainian troops just three days ago,” said Yingst. “Yesterday we were the first group of journalists to enter this village amid ongoing battles.”

Yingst spoke with a woman in the village, amid artillery fire and the body of a Russian soldier next to her yard. Yingst also went inside a government building in the nearby city of Kupyansk that was used by the Russians when they occupied this area for 7 months.

Video from Fox News indicated fierce fighting off in the distance. Graphic images purported to show the body of a civilian. Yingst explained how fighting in and around Hlushkivka has escalated.

“Shattered windows are battered buildings lined the streets,” he added.

Yingst joined the Fox News international correspondent team in 2018. He’s been covering the war in Ukraine since Russian President Vladimir Putin launched his attack in February of 2022.

Greg Gutfeld Roast Howard Stern Over First Trip Outside House in Two Years

0

Fox News late-night host Greg Gutfeld roasted SiriusXM host Howard Stern Friday for comments that Stern made on his radio show regarding his first trip out of the house in two years.

Stern has been holed up in his mansion since the pandemic began back in March 2020. The self-proclaimed “King of All Media” has condemned people who refused to get the COVID shot and at one point insisted that people should be forced to get vaccinated.

“The New York Post reported that Stern hit a sheek restaurant in NYC with a crew of A-listers including Jimmy Kimmel, Jennifer Aniston, Jon Hamm, Justin Theroux, Jason Bateman. I was not invited because my first name does not begin with the letter J,” the Gutfeld! host quipped via Mediate

Stern discussed the dinner on his radio show calling it “exhausting” and said the experience was “too much” for him.

“Life is tough, especially when you’ve been cut off from the world for two years in a $20 million beach house,” Gutfeld said. “I mean, you have no idea how tiring it is walking all the way from the wine cellar to the tennis court and back. Do I sound jealous? Yes, because who wouldn’t be?”

“But it’s weird, he went from ridiculing the man to becoming him. No longer embracing rebellion, he French kisses regulation,” he added.

Michael Doyle Excited to Lead SUNY Brockport’s Business School

0

Life is full of unexpected twists and turns. When it comes to business, you never know how your past connections may factor into opportunities down the road. Just ask former Entercom Radio executive Michael Doyle.

More than three decades after graduating from SUNY Brockport, Doyle recently returned to his alma mater to run its business school. In hindsight, it’s an opportunity that his former positions at Entercom Radio and News Radio 810 WGY prepared him for.

Doyle recently told Brockport Today that he’s excited about the opportunity to lead a school that has garnered state-wide recognition for its ties to the local business community. Doyle told the paper that he plans to put students in a position to gain real-life experience in the business world.

“I can engage business leaders about the needs of the community,” he said. “That’s one of the things that I can bring to the table to make sure we have those great connections with the business community at large.”

Doyle served as the regional president of Entercom Communications. He managed many of the broadcaster’s major markers including stations in Rochester and Buffalo, NY. Doyle has taken active roles in supporting the school’s mission of preparing students for life after college.

In the past, he’s served on the Brockport Foundation Board of Directors. According to the school’s website, the board is made up of volunteers who are staunch supporters of the college and its mission. The board oversees financial management and investment of gifts.

“You know there are similarities in running a business and running a school,” stated Doyle. “You know in terms of the problems that you can find in any business situation that are applicable to the challenges that you face in running the School of Business and Management.”

Doyle accepted the role of Dean for the School of Business and Management after retiring as the President of Sales Operations for Entercom Communications.

“The reality is, it was intriguing to me because it was so different from anything I ever did in my career and it’s a challenge. And I love a challenge,” he added.
