KJR Assistant Program Director Kevin Shockey has been named the new Program Director of Altitude Sports Radio in Denver.
“I’m leaving a station that I love and going to a new station with talent that I believe in and I can’t wait to work with,” Shockey said in a Facebook post announcing the move. He added that it’s time “for a new challenge and a step up. That also means it is time to step out and take a risk.”
Shockey has been with iHeartMedia in Seattle since August of 2006, ascending to the Assistant Program Director role in 2015. He will fill the seat vacated by Dave Tepper, who became the Program Director of KOA earlier this summer.
His final day at KJR will be Wednesday. He’s expected to start working in Denver on Monday October 10th.
Wednesday will be my last day with KJR after 17 years.
The NFL of CBS is behemoth to start the 2022 season. This past weekend saw the more massive ratings for the network.
Sunday’s national game window, which was led the Patriots-Packers overtime game, averaged 24.647 million viewers which was the most-watched Week 4 window on CBS since 1998, when the NFL returned to CBS. It’s also a ratings increase of 8% from last season.
That number buoys the network to an average of 18.559 million viewers over the first four games of the season, CBS‘ best start to a season since 2010.
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz used its local hour portion of their podcast to discuss the folding of Miami’s 790 the Ticket. A large portion of the show staff previously worked at The Ticket and had many memories and thoughts on the end of an era for the brand.
Le Batard began by saying that it feels like they’ve grieved four different things in relation to the station, but it still stirred something when the news became official. Le Batard asked Stugotz, one of the founders of the station, what he felt when the switch happened.
“I wasn’t as sad as I thought I would be for a couple of reasons,” Stugotz said. “One: super proud of what we accomplished and built there. Secondly, and I’m serious about this, it probably lasted 17 years longer than what I thought it was going to last and for that I am thankful.”
The show went on to talk about one of the last pillars of the station, Jonathan Zaslow, being let go recently and how it was the final connective tissue that many had to the station where they began.
“My connection point (to 790 the Ticket) was the people there,” began Mike Ryan Ruiz. “The final nail in the coffin was when they let (Jonathan) Zaslow go, who was one of the original 790 hires. They did so in a crude fashion, I felt but…”
“Oh it was crude. It was crude,” Le Batard jumped in. “And that is what got stirred for me. That’s what got stirred for me when, it seemed 790 was dead to me because of some of the stuff that happened with the Local Hour at the end that I found disrespectful. But what they did to Zas was horrifying. What they did to Zaslow after 18 years of service, calling him in and not giving him any explanation, awful. The awful part of this awful radio business.”
Ruiz said that Zaslow should have been given an explanation and it wouldn’t have taken much.
“In fact, the explanation Zaslow should have gotten was ‘we’re consolidating both stations and don’t worry, we’ll tell the Miami Heat for you,’. Should have been a nice little human touch in regards to the Zaslow thing.”
The 2021-2022 NHL season was the first of a new media rights deal that saw the league’s games air nationally on ESPN and TNT.
The 2022-2023 season will see more games on linear television, and NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman says that’s from ESPN’s insistence.
When asked by Sports Business Journal‘s Alex Silverman about a noticeably larger linear television schedule for the upcoming season, Bettman said “We’re happy to have it, but it’s something that ESPN pushed for. But to the extent that ESPN was looking to make an adjustment for Year 2, we’re pleased to have the ongoing exposure. Although, last year and the way things were balanced was a terrific year for us. Ratings were up, viewership was up, connectivity on all platforms for our fans was up. And ESPN and Turner have done an incredible job, and we’re grateful to be with them.”
Last season, ESPN and ABC only aired 28 games on linear television, 18 airing on ESPN or ESPN2 and 10 on ABC. 75 regular season games were exclusive to ESPN+ and Hulu.
This year, 52 games will air between the two networks with 37 games on ESPN or ESPN2 and 15 games on ABC. The Walt Disney Company has exclusive rights to 103 NHL broadcasts during the 2022-2023 season, including the opening night double header, the All-Star Skills Competition and All-Star Game, and the NHL Stadium Series.
FOX’s regular season coverage of MLB ended so strongly that it featured the best Saturday night baseball telecast on the network all season.
FOX reeled in 2,657,000 viewers for its two game slate (Rays-Astros or Mets-Braves). The Mets-Braves series was a battle of two teams trying to win the National League East division.

SiriusXM host Joe Madison and 77WABC host Greg Kelly have feuded recently over an unlikely subject: Washington D.C. museums.
Kelly recently discussed schools sending their eight grade students to Washington D.C. and the museums they visit. He then said there isn’t much worth seeing inside the African-American Museum, and your time would be better spent at the Air and Space Museum, which Madison took issue with.
“You know Greg Kelly? What an asshole,” Madison said in the clip. “Give me a damn break. I’ve been there. It’s divisive. ‘Go to the Air and Space Museum’. I’ve been there. It’s cool. You can touch a moon rock. But this is divisive. Excuse me, SiriusXM and Pandora, by the way, have an exhibit there. They have an exhibit there.”
“Does that make you want to go to the African-American Museum?”, Kelly asked. “To see some radio station’s sponsorship? That they bought off the mob? That they did some philanthropic virtue signaling? I don’t really care about that.”
He then played a clip of Madison saying you can see Chuck Berry’s Cadillac at the museum, which Kelly mocked. He then played another clip of Madison making a plea for a discussion between the pair.
“Let me tell you something, Greg Kelly,” Madison said. “If you had any brains whatsoever, damn you, call me, damn it! Call me! But you don’t have the courage to call me.”
“So I called him, and all he did was yell, and scream, and curse,” Kelly said. “He yelled. He screamed. And he cursed. What a missed opportunity for him.”
A report from Sara Fischer of Axios claims Audacy has hired bankers to explore a sale of Cadence13, one of its two podcast studios.
The company faces potential delisting by the New York Stock Exchange if its price remains at under $1 per share. The NYSE gave Audacy notice that it had six months to increase its price or face the delisting. Shares closed Friday at an all-time low of 39 cents.
Audacy purchased a stake in Cadence13, then called DGital Media, in 2017. It then purchased the remaining shares of the company in 2019, placing its valuation at approaching $50 million.
Fischer reporters Audacy would seek to sell Cadence13 at nearly double that $50 million valuation.
