ESPN Unveils New NBA Graphics Package, Theme Song

As ESPN prepares for the upcoming NBA season, the network unveiled a new graphics package and theme song Tuesday.

The network unveiled a new scorebug, with colors for each team corresponding to what uniform they are wearing.

“Leading creative initiatives like this one are exactly what we envisioned when we created ESPN’s groundbreaking in-house Creative Studio almost two years ago,” said Carrie Brzezinski-Hsu, Vice President, ESPN Creative Studio. “We take sports from game to experience. It takes a dynamic collective of creative capabilities and storytellers to make fans feel like they are part of the game.”

“Like everything involving the NBA on ESPN, this has been a total team effort,” said Tim Corrigan, Vice President, Production. “We were thrilled to collaborate with our ESPN Creative Studio group to bring this new look and feel to life. It’s big, bold and contemporary and we can’t wait for fans to see it.”

The network has also unveiled new theme music for the upcoming season.

ESPN partnered with Made Music Studios for “the next evolution” of the NBA on ESPN’s sound.  The network says “Made Music created a hip hop-based concept with the power and energy synonymous with ESPN’s NBA Productions”.

Dana Loesch: CNN Unfair to Question Ron DeSantis On Lack of Evacuation Plans

Dana Loesch thought a question from a CNN reporter to Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) about a Florida county refusing to issue mandatory evacuations until the day before Hurricane Ian made landfall was unwarranted, going as far to say the media was attempting to give the Governor his “Hurricane Katrina moment”.

“That is the big push from the left, through the media, and the media is hitting first, so I’m anticipating (California Governor Gavin) Newsom and others to follow as soon as they think that media has seeded the ground enough to make such an accusation towards DeSantis,” Loesch said.

“This is what’s weird. The media is trying to create a Hurricane Katrina narrative around Ron DeSantis so they can kneecap him and not only reduce the enthusiasm around him Republican voters have around him as we go into the midterms but also hurt him ahead of any potential 2024 Presidential run,” The Dana Show host posited.

“Do you remember — let’s go back to Hurricane Katrina for a moment — when the media was not going after a Governor but they were blaming George Bush for the actions of the Governor? So if a Democrat is in the White House — and they’re President — then it’s ok to criticize the Governor. But if it’s a Republican President in the White House then it’s the President not the Governor (who receives blame)?”

Loesch concluded by saying the media is trying to damage DeSantis for actions made by other election officials, noting Lee County is roughly 130 miles south of where the storm was forecasted to make landfall.

Kayla Anderson Added to 104.5 The Zone Morning Show

Kayla Anderson has been added to the 104.5 The Zone morning show, newly titled Ramon, Kayla, and Will, joining Ramon Foster and Will Boling on the Nashville station.

Anderson will begin hosting Wednesday morning. She has previously worked as a sports anchor, reporter, and digital contributor on WKRN-TV in Nashville. A graduate of Washington State University, she has also worked at television stations in Spokane, Missoula, Tucson, and Columbus in addition to her time in Nashville.

“After spending the last 15 years in local TV covering sports, I’m thrilled to venture into Sports Talk radio, joining 104.5 The Zone in the mornings with Ramon, Will and producer Jonathan Shaffer,” Anderson said. “I’m truly looking forward to hanging with this talented crew, talking sports, interacting with the listeners, and having lots of fun doing it!”

Anderson said on Twitter she is “so excited to join this group!”

Boling had been the interim host of the morning show after the August departure of Jason Martin.

Ramon, Kayla, and Will will be heard from 6:00 AM-10:00 AM each weekday morning.

Derek Wolfe Joining 104.3 The Fan as ‘The Drive’ Co-Host

Former NFL defensive lineman Derek Wolfe is joining 104.3 The Fan in Denver as Darren “DMac” McKee’s co-host on The Drive With Derek Wolfe and DMac.

Wolfe announced his retirement from the NFL earlier this year after signing a one-day contract to retire with the Denver Broncos. He was the franchise’s top pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, spending eight seasons with the team, including a win in Super Bowl 50.

“To the listeners in Denver, ‘The Fan Wolfe-pack,’ I am so insanely pumped to talk with you every afternoon on The Fan. We had a special connection when I was playing for the Broncos that’s only going to grow stronger every day on The Drive,” said Wolfe. “DMac and I are going to fight sometimes, maybe we’ll fight a lot of the time, but we’ll always be working together to entertain you. I’ve always kept it 100 with you, and that’s not going to change one bit.” 

“Derek is one of the most popular players in Broncos history, with the iconic image of his sack celebration in Super Bowl 50 forever etched in Denver sports lore,” said 104.3 The Fan program director Raj Sharan. “What’s so exciting about adding Derek is his connection with the audience goes far beyond his production on the field. Wolfe enters a role previously occupied by former Bronco Tyler Polumbus, who departed the station in September. The Drive with Derek Wolfe and DMac will be heard weekday afternoons from 2:00 PM-6:00 PM.

Seven women are getting an award from the Alliance for Women in Media. The Gracies Leadership Awards will be presented November 14th at Tribeca 360 in New York. According to a news release, this year’s honorees are:

  • Marie Donoghue, Vice President, Global Sports Video, Amazon
  • Kim Godwin, President, ABC News
  • Wendy Goldberg, Chief Communications Officer, iHeartMedia, Inc.

In a statement, Alliance for Women in Media President Becky Brooks said she’s excited.

“It is an exceptional honor to recognize and celebrate this strong lineup and powerhouse of women leaders in our industry. Soledad O’Brien as our keynote speaker will undoubtedly create an unforgettable event for everyone in attendance.”

Broadcast news veteran Soledad O’Brien will deliver the keynote address. The Alliance for Women in Media was established in 1951 as American Women in Radio & Television.

Charlie Kirk: Federal Government Limited My Social Media Reach in 2020

A report from John Solomon’s JustTheNews.com claims a federal agency limited the reach of “thousands” of web URLs and “millions” of social media posts during the 2020 Presidential Campaign, and the list includes conservative commentator Charlie Kirk, who discussed being on the “enemies list” Monday.

“Essentially we have a third party — allegedly — that exists to censor people that they don’t like, such as James Woods, Gateway Pundit, Donald Trump Jr., Tom Fenton, Jack Posobiec, myself, Mark Levin, James O’Keefe, Rick Grenell, Breitbart News, Sean Hannity,” The Charlie Kirk Show host said. “So the federal government pays this outside company to then censor voices they don’t like.”

Solomon joined Kirk to discuss the matter, saying the “breadth of censorship is absolutely jaw-dropping. They targeted 4,900 URLs, 20 U.S. news sites, 29 famous influencers, yourself included, and the impact of all that censorship is an estimated — in their own report, this is the coalition’s own report — to be 22 million tweets. A massive amount of reach throttling and censorship. Unheard of in American history.”

Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene told Solomon’s television show she is considering legal action, saying “I’ve already talked to an attorney…and I’m owed damages”. Her Twitter account was permanently suspended in January for continued COVID-19 misinformation.

ESPN Accused Of Data Sharing Without Consent In Class Action Lawsuit

According to a potential class action lawsuit, user data from ESPN.com and ESPN+ has been allegedly shared with Meta Platforms without users consent.

Corrado Rizzi of ClassAction.org has proposed the suit, alleging that ESPN “uses a pixel installed on the back end of its website to track when website and app users take certain actions, such as clicking on an ad or viewing video content”. That “pixel” is used by Facebook to capture “a subscriber’s Facebook ID, with which anyone can ‘quickly and easily’ locate, access, and identify a particular Facebook account and a file containing details of a watched video and its corresponding URL.”

Rizzi adds that ESPN.com and ESPN+ subscribers aren’t told their data could be shared. He also shares that while ESPN could create its website to information isn’t immediately shared with Facebook, it benefits financially from utilizing the “pixel” on its website.

The proposed suit alleges these are violations of the Video Privacy Protection Act. The VPAA, according to ClassAction.org, “prohibits ‘video tape service providers’ from knowingly disclosing without consent consumers’ personally identifiable information, including that which identifies someone as having requested or obtained specific video materials”.

Keith Olbermann Scoffs At Dan Bongino’s WW III Remarks

Podcaster and political commentator Keith Olbermann took aim at media personality Dan Bongino for his comments about World War III last weekend. 

The “Unfiltered” host said on his Fox News show Saturday that he believes the U.S. government is slow-walking its people into a major conflict. 

“We’re in a really dangerous place right now,” said Bongino. “The sabotage of the crucial Nord Stream pipeline — delivers gas from Russia to Germany — is a really big deal.” 

According to Reuters, major leaks that suddenly erupted in the Nord Stream gas pipelines that run from Russia to Europe under the Baltic Sea have generated some theories. Russian President Vladimir Putin has blamed the west. 

“Who blew up the pipeline or pieces of it?” Bongino said. “That’s the multi-billion-dollar question. The blame game is already in full swing over who’s responsible.” 

“Based on this glazed look in his eyes, the question Dan Bongino SHOULD be asking is: Who knows where I parked my damn car?” Olbermann tweeted in response to Bongino’s post. 

Olbermann’s response to Bongino’s post drew plenty of reaction. 

“As usual, no evidence, just accusations,” one user said about Bongino’s comments. 

“Looking at the performance of Russian equipment in Ukraine, isn’t the culprit more likely a combination of poor construction and lack of maintenance leading to a catastrophic failure?” Another tweet read. 

Experts are reportedly calling the leaks an act of sabotage. 

SiriusXM, Law&Crime Network Expand Partnership

SiriusXM and the Law&Crime Network are expanding their partnership. The network which was created by host Dan Abrams will now be available on the satellite broadcaster’s streaming platform. 

According to Radio Insight, the network’s programming will be heard on channel 793 carrying simulcasts of the TV network’s daily trial coverage and true-crime programming. 

“We have been talking with SiriusXM for years about a Law&Crime channel that would bring compelling trial coverage and crime content to the platform, so it’s really exciting to see this come to fruition,” said Abrams. 

Law&Crime is dedicated to exploring the always intriguing world of the law while offering original crime stories and legal programs to a broad, multi-platform audience.

“I’ve loved being part of the SiriusXM family and am thrilled to be expanding our collaboration,” Abrams added. 

Law&Crime broadcasts live trials along with expert legal commentary and analysis delving into the intricacies of the judicial system.

Law&Crime (channel 793) is available to subscribers nationwide in their cars and on the SXM App. Abrams is also the host of The Dan Abrams Show from 2-3 pm ET on SiriusXM P.O.T.U.S. channel 124 as well as the host of Dan Abrams Live on NewsNation.

Non-Profit Aiding Broadcast Professionals Affected by Hurricane Ian

A non-profit organization dedicated to helping broadcast professionals who have fallen on hard times is stepping up to help those personally impacted by Hurricane Ian. 

In a news release, The Broadcasters Foundation of America said it will provide qualified individuals monetary relief if they were affected by Hurricane Ian. The organization said requests have come in from Spanish Broadcasting System, America CV Station Group, Telemundo, and Univision. 

“Our Emergency Grant Program is set up with a streamlined vetting process that allows us to move quickly and get checks to those in desperate need quickly,” explained Tim McCarthy, President of the Broadcasters Foundation of America.

Last week, Hurricane Ian made landfall as a category four storm with sustained winds of 150 mph. The hurricane came ashore as one of the strongest storms ever to strike Florida. 

“Broken pipes, power outages, displacement, and more have brought devastation to many of our colleagues,” McCarthy said. “We’re asking every broadcaster in affected areas to help us get the word out to those who may qualify for assistance.” 

One-time emergency grants are awarded to qualifying broadcast colleagues recovering from a natural disaster, such as hurricanes, tornados, fires, floods, or other serious misfortune.

Personal donations can be made to the Foundation’s Guardian Fund. Corporate contributions are accepted through the Angel Initiative, and bequests can be made through the Foundation’s Legacy Society.
