Tony Katz: Scott Pelley Is ‘Terrible Interviewer’

Radio host Tony Katz is taking Scott Pelley and CBS News to task for Sunday’s interview with President Biden on 60 Minutes.

“The pandemic is over,” the President told Pelly. “We still have a problem with COVID. We’re still doing a lot of work on it, but the pandemic is over.”

Katz, who hosts mornings on WIBC in Indianapolis, was stunned.

“There is one thing that made it unbelievably spectacular and it’s not actually what he said,” Katz said. “What’s amazing is that CBS aired it. It’s shocking. Scott Pelley, terrible interviewer. Absolutely awful. The softball nature of this interview is not to be excused for a moment. Scott Pelley failed as an interviewer.”

“Who else could just be so cavalier about the fact that ‘oh yeah, pandemic over,” Katz continued in web stream Monday on his YouTube channel.

“We’ve known that the pandemic is over for a little over a year now,” Katz said.

President Biden’s interview on 60 Minutes marked the start of the long-running CBS program’s 55th season.

NBC Sports Partners with BetMGM, Will Feature Betting Integrations During NFL Coverage

NBC Sports and BetMGM have announced a brand new partnership for the 2022 NFL season. The deal will be highlighted by betting integrations on Football Night in America and content across other NBC Sports platforms.

The integrations that viewers will see on Football Night in America will include a weekly segment hosted by Chris Simms and Matthew Berry which will highlight storylines and betting odds for the Sunday Night Football game. Others will include real-time betting odds on the scoring ticker during FNIA as well. Also, Peacock Sunday Night Football Final will go deep on the storylines and BetMGM betting lines that proved prominent during the matchup.

“The biggest goal of our partnerships is to reach, resonate and engage with fans, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to work with the talented team at NBC Sports to do just that this NFL season,” said Matt Prevost, Chief Revenue Officer, BetMGM. “We look forward to bringing football fans nationwide insights from the BetMGM trading team, as well as entertaining segments that showcase the excitement of betting with BetMGM.

BetMGM will also offer integrations in all Berry-hosted content across various NBC Sports platforms, including Fantasy Football Happy Hour with Matthew Berry and Fantasy Football Pregame with Matthew Berry.

The betting service will also offer integrations within content hosted by Chris Simms, including on the Chris Simms Unbuttoned podcast, as well on his social platforms throughout the 2022 NFL season and during the 2023 NFL Draft.

YES Will Offer Jomboy Alternate Broadcast Tonight For Aaron Judge Home Run Chase

The world of alternate broadcasts will feature another opportunity to stretch its legs tonight when the YES Network offers a Jomboy alternate-cast on the YES app in the hopes to capture history amid Aaron Judge’s homerun record chase.

Tonight’s Yankees/Pirates game will air exclusively on the YES Network with Michael Kay, Paul O’Neill, David Cone and Meredith Marakovits. However, an alternate broadcast will accompany the game on the app with Jimmy “Jomboy” O’Brien and partner Jake Storiale will offer their own opinions as Judge attempts to tie or surpass Roger Maris’ American League record 61 home runs.

“We thought it would be really cool to take that to the next level and have them do an alternative-cast of the game,” Matt Duarte, YES’ vice president of strategy and business development said. “They can speak directly to our fans while the game is going on.”

Fred Toucher Back in Hospital For Foot Ailment

98.5 the Sports Hub’s Fred Toucher is back in the hospital treating a foot ailment that has plagued the host for weeks.

Toucher’s foot pain got so severe that on Monday it caused him to leave the Toucher and Rich show before the first segment was over. On Tuesday he returned for the full show, describing how painful the issue still was. He also mentioned that he was told if the anitbiotics he was prescribed did not alleviate his pain, he should return to the hospital. On Wednesday’s Toucher and Rich, co-host Rich Shertenlieb delivered the news that Toucher has returned to the hospital.

“First of all, it’s unfortunate,” Shertenlieb began. “Fred’s foot, I know he told you all if he wasn’t feeling better by tomorrow night he was going to go to the hospital. It was not feeling better so I think this is going to be a situation where he’s going to go in and say ‘let me leave once it’s fixed. Just take care of this. Let’s get it done.’ He’s knocking it out so that’s good. Good for him he’s getting taken care of.”

Toucher posted on his Instagram a photo of the affected foot from a hospital bed on Tuesday evening.

There is no timetable for his return.

Karsch and Anderson: Cris Collinsworth Should Bring Back The Slide

A day after Cris Collinsworth explained to Kay Adams why he no longer does the patented “Collinsworth Slide”, Karsch and Anderson on 97.1 The Ticket are clamoring for its return.

“Now that it is Tirico, he doesn’t do it. The question was why not? Because everybody loved seeing the Collinsworth slide,” Doug Karsch said. “They loved seeing him slide. They’d mess around, they had him slide in from the other side once, there’s all kinds of internet memes. And when the season started, he’s not doing it anymore. So Kay asked him why.”

The pair then played the clip from Kay Adams asking Collinsworth about the absence of the slide, and then recapped the fan reaction.

“People got pissed when the first week of the season happened,” Gator Anderson said. “Woah, woah, woah where’s the slide? What happened to the slide? So he had to explain it and now we know,” Anderson said.

“The question is, does he bring it back?”, asked Karsch.

“I think he should for a game, just to gauge the reaction,” Anderson countered. “He says it would look stupid and it probably would, but you know what we like? We like when people look stupid sometimes. We know why he’d be doing it. It’d be to appease the people that watch the show. It’s ok. They ain’t all gems, but that one, we like it.”

Karsch then said “the slide” makes Collinsworth a more likeable announcer, and equated it to Lee Corso’s headgear pick on College GameDay, noting that he made the beginning of the Sunday Night Football broadcast appointment television just to see the slide.

Emmanuel Sanders Joining NFL Network

Super Bowl-winning wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders has joined NFL Network as a studio analyst, the network announced today.

Sands will regularly appear on NFL GameDay Morning throughout the season. He will make his debut this Sunday at 9:00 AM.

“After 12 years in the NFL, I am excited to take what I have learned on the field and be able to provide my insight and opinions about the game I love on NFL Network,” said Sanders. “I can’t think of a better place to start my post-playing career.”

A third round pick out of SMU in 2010, Sanders played for the Steelers, Broncos, 49ers, Saints, and Bills before announcing his retirement earlier this month. He caught 51 touchdowns during his 12-year NFL career.

“We got to see a glimpse of what Emmanuel could bring several years ago when he was a guest analyst on NFL GameDay Morning on Championship Sunday,” said NFL Network Vice President and Executive Producer Charlie Yook. “We are excited to have him join our family and create memorable content in the linear and digital space.”

Nikki Haley Chastises Sunny Hostin, The View Over ‘Chameleon’ Comments

After comments made by The View co-host Sunny Hostin calling Nikki Haley a “chameleon” for not embracing her Indian roots, the former South Carolina Governor and UN Ambassador fired back Wednesday during an appearance on Faulkner Focus.

Hostin scoffed at The View co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin’s insinuation that Haley could be a good Presidential candidate, saying “some of us can be chameleons and decide not to embrace our ethnicities”. Hostin herself goes by a different name than her legal first name, Asuncion. She defended herself by saying “most American’s can’t pronounce” her name due to “undereducation”.

Haley returned served by tweeting its “racist” of Hostin to “judge my name”. She later said “the left’s hypocrisy towards conservative minorities” is sad.

During her appearance on Fox News, Haley said “They can’t stand the fact that a minority female would be a conservative Republican. You know, when I ran and won governor a reporter went to a high-ranking African-American Democrat female and said “How do you feel that South Carolina now has their first minority governor?” And she said ‘Nikki Haley is not a minority. She’s a conservative with a tan’.”

Haley then said Hostin won’t receive any repercussions from her words, and pointed out a perceived double standard on the matter.

“You’re not going to see her fired from that show,” she argued. “We’re not going to even see an apology from that show. Because they let liberals say that about conservative Republican minorities all the time. But yet nothing is done. Had this been said about a Democrat, all hell would have broken loose.”

Kurt Warner Loves Monday Night Football Radio Gig

Hall-Of-Fame quarterback Kurt Warner has been the lead analyst in the Monday Night Football radio booth for Westwood One since 2018, taking over the role that was held by Boomer Esiason for 18 years. It has become a challenge for Warner, but a challenge that he has embraced.  

This week, Warner was a guest on the GameTime with Boomer Esiason podcast and he mentioned that he has loved doing the radio broadcasts because it’s the closest thing for him to playing the game again: 

“I love the radio. I was fortunate you moved on so I can step into that role because it is something I really, really love,” said Warner to Esiason.

“When you play the game, you have to make decisions in 4-5 seconds. There’s nothing that’s going to capture that. I feel calling games is kind of the closest thing. You’ve got to see what transpires, you get 30 seconds or so to kind of share your impression of what you are seeing, kind of share your knowledge.”

On Sundays, you can watch Warner on NFL Gameday Morning with Rich Eisen, Steve Mariucci, and Michael Irvin on NFL Network. While he says he enjoys being a part of those shows, calling games on the radio is the biggest challenge for him among all his other endeavors.

“I really, really enjoy the radio because it’s a clean canvas. People aren’t watching at home. They can’t create their own idea of what’s going on, so that is all in our hands when we are doing the radio. I love what I do on the NFL Network…but I really, really enjoy calling games because I think it’s the closest thing to having to react and process in the moment and then be able to positively explain something in a short period of time. I just think it’s the biggest challenge I have in all the things that I do.”

Jon Jansen: Michael Strahan Hates Me ‘Because I Kicked His Ass’

During an appearance on The Dan Patrick Show, FOX NFL analyst Michael Strahan was asked if there was any a player he didn’t like during his Hall of Fame career. He then said Jon Jansen, who now hosts mornings with Michael Stone and Heather Park on 97.1 The Ticket in Detroit.

“There are a few guys who I’m like, yeah, I never really liked you. The one guy who sticks out in my mind is Jon Jansen,” Strahan said. “He played for the Redskins, offensive tackle. I never cared for him. For some reason, just something about him that bugged me.”

“First name that came to mind,” Jansen said after Stoney read Strahan’s comments. “He hates me because I kicked his ass. And I’m loving it that he hated me the most.”

Stone then added there were a few other players listed, but Strahan said “they made me better”, but he didn’t say that about Jansen.

“Going back to your rookie year (1999), the first time you played the Giants and Strahan, the Redskins (Jansen’s team) won 50-21. I’m reading from The Washington Post. ‘Saying the Redskins ran up the score to embarrass the Giants, Strahan vowed payback and challenged the moxie of the Redskins and Jansen to repeat his performance’.”

“He did that actually on ESPN,” Jansen added. “Hands together, praying style, saying ‘Please give me Jansen one-on-one. Please give me Jansen one-on-one.'”

Stoney continued reading from The Post article by saying “‘Well, Jansen responded with an equally dominating effort and gave the Redskins a glimpse toward the future on the right side as the University of Michigan product appears cemented on the lineup and appeared eager to meet the standard of The Hogs set during the Joe Gibbs era’.”

The article continued, quoting then-Redskins head coach Norv Turner praising Jansen for negating Strahan’s ability to affect the game and noted the pair would face one another “for years to come”. At the time, Jansen said he “did his talking with his pads” and had one of his better games against Strahan.

Jansen did have high praise for Strahan, calling him a “complete player”.
