Mike Gallagher Mocks CNN Martha’s Vineyard Headline

Plenty of news coverage has been devoted to Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) and his decision to fly illegal immigrants to Martha’s Vineyard, and a CNN headline on the matter caught the eye of conservative radio host Mike Gallagher.

During his show Monday, Gallagher pointed out how, in his view, ridiculous one CNN headline about the matter was.

“This is an actual headline at CNN. I had to double check it, but this is an actual headline at CNN,” Gallagher said. “By Rachel Sanchez of CNN. Headline: ‘They Enriched Us’, Migrants 44-Hour Visit Left Indelible Mark on Martha’s Vineyard’,” the host said while laughing. “‘They enriched us. 44 hours, before we kicked them out’. That might be the best part of this. Watching progressives take a moral victory lap because they were able to tolerate illegals for 48 hours before the military escorted them out. Did you see the video of people lining up this weird parade of hugs? ‘Goodbye! Thanks for visiting! You’re gone! We love you! You enriched us!’ I guarantee you Governor DeSantis is sitting there in his office in Tallahassee saying to himself ‘Wow, I didn’t think they’d take the bait this badly.”

Rich Zeoli: Coverage of Queen Elizabeth’s Funeral ‘Boring’

Coverage of the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II’s dominated news networks Monday, and 1210 WPHT morning host Rich Zeoli didn’t necessarily understand why.

While discussing the extreme amount of coverage given to the sovereign of another nation, Zeoli pointed out how uninteresting the funeral coverage was.

“I would love to see the ratings for yesterday,” WPHT Brand Manager Greg Stocker said. “Because I just don’t think that many people gave a damn about it. Maybe I’m wrong.”

“No, I think you’re right,” Zeoli said. “It’s all so boring to watch. I had Fox News on after the show yesterday and you’re watching this long processional and every now and then Martha MacCallum would come on and say ‘What an amazing day’ and then an hour later she’d say ‘This is truly amazing’. What can you say? There’s nothing you can say.”

Every major news network pre-empted their usual lineup to cover the Queen’s funeral and processional. It marked the first time a British monarch’s funeral was broadcast on television.

Charlie Kirk: ‘Synthetic Media Complex’ Shown By TikTok Account

Conservative radio host and podcaster Charlie Kirk discussed what he called the “synthetic media complex” during his Monday episode of The Charlie Kirk Show, and pointed to a recent TikTok as evidence that reports seen in the media are fabricated.

“Is the mid-term narrative — that we are seeing being pushed by The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal — is it actually a simulation that is being funded by Silicon Valley billionaires?”, Kirk asked.

“Over the weekend, an attorney with a very popular TikTok account decided to something rather courageous. I don’t know this young man’s name. We’ll find it and I’ll say it. But this young lawyer — is not a Trump fan, by the way — decided to make a TikTok in no uncertain terms that a billionaire funded 501(C)(3) non-profit, that’s a very important part of this story, sent him an email proposing and offering cash for him to make a video on his very popular TikTok spreading lies about Donald Trump.”

Preston Moore, the lawyer Kirk spoke of, posted a video to his TikTok account Saturday, claiming he was offered $400 to make a video “anti-Donald Trump propaganda post” in regards to the former President’s involvement in the January 6th insurrection. In the video, Moore claims to have received an email from the Good Info Foundation asking him to make a video and share it to Instagram. It also appears to show how Moore should describe events in the video, saying he should say “criminal conspiracy” not “attempted coup”, “treason”, or “insurrection”, for instance.

Kirk went on to allege the Good Info Foundation is funded by the widow of Steve Jobs, Steve Ballmer, and Craig Newmark, the founder of Craigslist.

Fox Sports Radio Adds Covino & Rich To Weekday Lineup

Fox Sports Radio has announced the addition of Covino & Rich to its daily lineup.

Steve Covino and Rich Davis will begin airing from 5:00 PM-7:00 PM ET weekdays on Monday, September 26th. In the lineup shuffle, The Doug Gottlieb Show will drop from three hours to two. In turn, Gottlieb will host a new original daily podcast, interviewing the biggest newsmakers in sports. Also, the network has ended Straight Outta Vegas with R.J. Bell, the one hour betting show that previously aired from 6:00 PM-7:00 PM ET.

“Covino and Rich will add a dynamic punch to an already rich roster,” said Don Martin, Executive Vice President of Programming for iHeartMedia Sports and Scott Shapiro, FOX Sports Radio Vice President of Sports Programming, in a joint statement. “They’re so talented we had to make room for them in what is the best sports talk lineup in the nation. We can’t wait to share this one-of-a-kind duo with even more listeners across the country.”

Covino & Rich — which originally debuted in 2004 for SiriusXM’s Maxim Radio — joined the Fox Sports Radio weekend lineup in 2021. The pair have also worked at ESPN Radio before the COVID-19 pandemic forced budget cuts and their contract wasn’t renewed. They also hosted a show on SNY from 2013-2015. They will continue to host the Covino & Rich Podcast, which is available for subscribers on Patreon.

“We couldn’t be more excited to be working with Don, Scott and the entire FOX Sports Radio team,” shared Covino and Rich. “We all share the same vision and can’t wait to bring the fun and energy every day! To quote every athlete in 2022, ‘Let’s F’n Go!’”

The pair both have backgrounds in music radio. Covino continues to host nights on SiriusXM’s Turbo, after a run at KROCK in New York City. Davis hosts from 12:00 PM-6:00 PM ET on SiriusXM’s Pop2K and was previously heard on Hits1. He also worked at Z100 in New York, Q102 in Philadelphia, and Hot 107.9 in Syracuse.

David Kaplan Walking 20 Miles For Charity

ESPN Chicago Kap & J. Hood host David Kaplan will again walk 20 miles Thursday as part of an event for a Chicago charity.

Bernie’s Book Bank, a non-profit dedicated to increasing book ownership in under-served Chicago children, will host its third annual Walk As One Chicago event Thursday morning, as Kaplan and Bernie’s Book Bank CEO Darrin Utynek will walk 20 miles to increase awareness of the charity.

The circular path will begin and end at Guaranteed Rate Field, home of the Chicago White Sox, before stopping at other Chicago stadiums including Wrigley Field, DePaul University, the University of Illinois-Chicago, and various beaches along the Lake Michigan shoreline. Books will be given to students at Jahn Elementary School in Chicago during the fourth stop on the schedule.

To date, Bernie’s Book Bank has donated more than 22 million books to Chicago area children.

In 2021, Kaplan walked 24 miles with Utynek, raising $150,000.

Lone Star Sports 920 Ceases Operations

According to a report from Radio Insight‘s Lance Venta, Lone Star Sports 920 in El Paso has exited the airwaves.

Lone Star Sports 920 aired the entire CBS Sports Radio lineup and was also an affiliate of the Houston Texans after launching in 2018.

Owner Grupo Radio Centro reportedly began rebuilding the tower for the station in May of this year, operating at just 150 watts since then. When at full daytime power, the station operated with 1,000 watts, dropping to 360 watts at night.

In a filing with the FCC, the company says it has lost the station’s tower site and is working on a plan to relocate.

DirecTV Reimbursing NFL Sunday Ticket Customers After Outages

DirecTV has announced they will be automatically reimbursing NFL Sunday Ticket customers after the service experienced problems for the second consecutive week.

“We will begin to reach out to our customers who were unable to stream some of the games on Sunday to let them know we will automatically reimburse them for (Week 2),” a spokesperson for DirecTV told USA Today. “We apologize to our customers for their experience and for the inconvenience.”

Seven games aired during the early Sunday window, with many streaming users reporting issues. Traditional satellite viewers were not affected by any outages.

2022 is the final year of DirecTV’s contract for NFL Sunday Ticket. The service is expected to be moving to a streaming-only option starting next year. AppleTV+ has been reported to be the leader in acquiring rights the service.

Los Angeles Clippers Returning to KTLA

The Los Angeles Clippers have agreed to a television deal to return 11 games per season to KTLA.

The station aired Clippers games from 1985 through 19981 and then again from 2002 to 2009.

Nexstar Media Group, owner of KTLA, will also distribute the games across other California television stations. In addition to KTLA, the group owns stations in San Diego, Bakersfield, Fresno, Sacramento and San Francisco.

KTLA will produce live pregame, halftime, and postgame programming and will also create special shoulder programming for the team.

In addition to the 11 regular season games that will air on KTLA, all four Clippers preseason games will also be broadcast on the station.

Joe DeTomaso Named PD of The Score 1260

Changes are afoot in Syracuse. With OM/PD Tom Mitchell exiting the Cumulus cluster, new leaders have been named, including a new PD for The Score 1260.

That honor goes to Joe DeTomaso. He is also the PD and midday host at sister station 95X.

“I’m excited to add The Score 1260 to my programming duties here in Syracuse,” he said in a press release. “We will continue to expand our audiences on both The Score 1260 and WAQX in the digital footprint thru outstanding relevant local content.”  

The Score carries a mostly syndicated lineup. CBS Sports Radio is heard for 22 hours per day. The only local show on the station is The Manchild Show with Boy Green featuring Jim Lerch and Paul Esden.

DeTomaso’s promotion is one of three made in the wake of Mitchell’s exit. Rick Roberts has been upped to PD at Top 40 outlet 93Q and Scott Dixon has been named Content Production Captain for streaming Triple A station The SGNL.

Howard Kurtz Rips British Outlet for Censoring John Oliver

Fox News “Media Buzz:” host Howard Kurtz said UK-based Sky “blatantly censored” late-night host John Oliver recently. 

“Oliver told a bunch of Queen Elizabeth jokes on his HBO show,” said Kurtz. 

Those jokes Kurtz referenced included Oliver quipping that the “UK is still clearly reeling from the shocking death of a 96-year-old woman who died from natural causes.”

According to the New York Post, Sky edited everything on “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver” between the jokes about the president of Chile and Liz Truss. 

“When the program was replayed in the UK by Sky Television which is owned by Comcast, those jokes were cut out,” said Kurtz. “Oliver was only allowed to mock the new Prime Minister, Liz Truss.” 

Kurtz said he understands the greater sensitivity that the network felt. 

“That’s blatant censorship, either run the show intact or don’t air it at all,” said Kurtz. 

“Last Week Tonight” with John Oliver has won an Emmy for Outstanding Variety Talk series seven years in a row.
