Jason Rantz: Sunny Hostin ‘Is a Vile Human Being’

KTTH-AM/Seattle talk show host Jason Rantz is not a fan of Sunny Hostin, co-host on “The View.”

Rantz tweeted, “TV’s dumbest lawyer @sunny Hostin effectively calls @NikkiHaley a sellout. Sunny is a vile human being.”

Conservative co-host Farah Griffin suggested that Haley, who serves as the US ambassador to the United Nations in the Trump Administration, could be a Republican contender for the presidency in 2024.

”I think we have some [possibilities] if they’re willing to challenge Trump,” Griffin said Tuesday. I’d love to see Nikki Haley. I’d love to see Liz Cheney.

“Nikki Haley the Chameleon,” asked Hostin. “Liz Cheney the flip-flopper savior?”

“I think Nikki Haley was an incredibly effective governor of South Carolina,” continued Griffin.

“What is [Haley’s] real name again,” responded Hostin. 

“A lot of people don’t go by their actual real names,” said Griffin. Hoston pressed the issue.

“I don’t want to mispronounce it but it’s Indian. Her background is Indian.”

Haley was born Nimrata Nikki Randhawa and became the first Indian American to work in the presidential cabinet in 2017. She married Michael Haley in 1996.

“You know, I think if she leaned into being someone of color it would be different,” concluded Hostin.

Rantz hosts afternoon drive on Bonneville’s KTTH 770AM, which is rebroadcast overnight and on weekends.

NAB President Curtis Legeyt Praises PRESS ACT Passing

The head of the National Association of Broadcasters is praising the passage in the House of the Press Shield Bill.

“NAB commends the House of Representatives for passing the PRESS Act with overwhelming bipartisan support,” said Legeyt.

“A free press is a necessary and vital hallmark of American democracy, enabling the unencumbered reporting of news and information that affects our communities, our nation and the world. This legislation honors the sanctity of journalists’ relationship with their sources and ensures members of the press may continue their important work without fear or favor.”

Congressmen Jamie Raskin of Maryland, John Yarmuth of Kentucky, and Ted Lieu of California introduced the Protect Reporters from Exploitative State Spying Spying Act, or PRESS. It protects journalists from having to reveal their sources.

“We appreciate the leadership of Reps. Raskin, Lieu and Yarmuth on this legislation and look forward to working with their counterparts in the Senate to pass this important bill into law.”

Most states have similar legislation protecting reporters, but there is currently no similar bill on a federal level. The House approved the PRESS Act unanimously.

CBS, FOX See More NFL Ratings Upticks

The NFL season started strongly for CBS and FOX in Week 1 and that trend continued in Week 2.

CBS’s national game window, which was led by the Cowboys’ last-second win over the Bengals and the Cardinals’ overtime comeback win against the Raiders, averaged 27.389 million viewers which made it the most-watched NFL on CBS national game window in three years (28.249 million, Dec. 8, 2019 with Kansas City-New England as the high-coverage game). It also accounts for CBS Sports’ most-watched game window in September since 1998 when the NFL returned to CBS.

FOX also had good numbers to report from the weekend as well. The network said that the network’s single-header which featured the Buccaneers beating the Saints in a wild fourth quarter, grabbed 16,228,000 viewers. That combined with Week 1’s numbers mean an average of 15,643,000 viewers and a ratings increase of 1% from last year’s season-to-date average.

FOX Touts Big Noon Kickoff, Big Noon Saturday Ratings Increase

College football has been a boon for FOX Sports and the ratings are proving the points.

The network’s Big Noon Saturday game is averaging 7,160,000 viewers which is up 18% from the first three weeks of 2021 (6,053,000 viewers).

FOX says that Big Noon Kickoff‘s final hour is averaging 1,407,000 viewers thru the first three weeks of the season. That marks an a ratings increase of 16% over the same span in 2021 (1,211,000 viewers).

Monumental Sports & Entertainment Completes Acquisition of NBC Sports Washington

Monumental Sports & Entertainment announced the complete acquisition of NBC Sports Washington on Tuesday.

MSE had previously announced their acquisition of NBCUniversal’s 67% stake in NBC Sports Washington from Comcast Corporation. This stake added to the 33% of NBC Sports Washington that MSE acquired in 2016. It now has full ownership of the regional sports network.

NBC Sports Washington holds the local television rights for the Washington Wizards and Washington Capitals. is the exclusive local TV rightsholder for Washington Wizards and Washington Capitals games. The network launched in 1984 as Home Team Sports and has been the Capitals’ and Wizards’ regional TV partner since in the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia, as well as parts of Pennsylvania, Delaware and West Virginia.

“We are incredibly pleased to announce that we have officially closed on our transaction to acquire NBC Sports Washington,” Zach Leonsis, President of Media & New Enterprises at MSE. “We look forward to welcoming all of our new teammates into the Monumental family, embarking on some exciting work to integrate the network into our platform, and building a best-in-class experience for our fans.”

As part of the transaction, NBCUniversal will continue to assist in the operation of the network by providing corporate and shared services, including distribution, technical resources and production facilities, for up to 18 months. NBC Sports Washington is expected to retain its current name and branding through the 2022-23 season. A network re-brand is anticipated for the 2023-24 Capitals and Wizards seasons.

Cris Collinsworth Tells Kay Adams Why He Doesn’t Do the “Slide” Anymore

Cris Collinsworth achieved a level of internet celebrity by simply entering the camera frame when it was time to start calling a NFL game with Al Michaels. He would appear to “slide” into frame when Michaels would finish his opening setup of a game on Sunday Night Football.

However, fans noticed pretty quickly when he didn’t do the famous move in Week 1 and Week 2 of the season. People wanted answers. He gave them to Kay Adams who asked Collinsworth why he no longer slid into the opening of the game.

“Al Michaels did an opening monologue, right? He came on by himself, and that’s what Al has done for the last 20 years,” Collinsworth said on Up and Adams with Kay Adams. “So I’m like, I’m not changing that. You just do that.”

He explained that the production team put a piece of tape on the set to signify where Collinsworth should sit during Michaels’ monologue. To his chagrin, the cameraman said to him early on, “get your a– out of the frame. What are you doing? Get out of the way.”

Collinsworth’s shoulder was still in sight so he would lean out of the way, then when it was time, he’d lean back into the shot and boom, the “Slide” was born.

But still, why is there no slide this year?

“(Mike) Tirico doesn’t do the opening monologue. So what am I going to do?” Collinsworth asked. “I could lean out, but it’d be stupid. I don’t know what you do. Do you just do it for effect”

He ended by saying perhaps a different idea for the Slide.

“Maybe I’ll leave that way. Maybe as soon as I finish I’ll go that way.”

Pat McAfee Finds Out On Air He Is Nominated For Hall of Fame

Is Pat McAfee a hall of famer? He could be. The punter turned media personality found out on his show on Tuesday that he is among the 129 modern-era nominees for the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s 2023 class.

“I do not deserve that,” he said Tuesday as he read his name on a list of special teams players being considered. “I did not play long enough to deserve that. How did that even happen?”

Pat McAfee said all of the right things when he could speak. Mostly though, the former Indianapolis Colt was left speechless by the recognition.

He called his inclusion on the list “an absolute joke.” He encouraged voters to instead support Shane Lechler, who spent 18 seasons in the NFL punting for the Raiders and the Texans. This is the first year he is on the ballot.

“Don’t vote me in, but this is cool to even be acknowledged,” McAfee said. “Did not play long enough. Did not have a big enough contribution to the game, but I’m lucky enough to cover the game every day since then and if any of these people go in that are representing special teams, I will be f***ing pumped about this, but this is something I could have never expected.”

McAfee added that he knows he will be the subject of debate for a lot of people when they see the list. He has done the same thing to other nominees in the past. This is the first time he has been able to see the debate about a player from the player’s point of view.

“This is an interesting thing now, because I have judged this type of situation and others in the past. I’ve wondered ‘Did he actually or is it because he’s popular person in the thing?’. Whatever the case, it’s cool to be on this side of it all.”

The list of 129 nominees will not be cut down significantly. Only 25 players will be made semi-finalists. They will be announced in November. Finalists will be announced in January. Only 15 players will receive that honor.

Bret Baier Asked Fox News President To Retract Arizona Call During 2020 President Election, Upcoming Book Claims

According to an upcoming book by Peter Baker and Susan Glasser called “The Divider“, Fox News anchor Bret Baier asked the network’s president to retract the call that now-President Joe Biden had won the state of Arizona after getting pushback from former President Donald Trump’s campaign.

Baier reportedly emailed Fox News President Jay Wallace during the election night coverage, saying “This situation is getting uncomfortable. Really uncomfortable. I keep having to defend this on air,” before saying the Trump campaign was “really pissed”.

“It’s hurting us,” Baier continued. “The sooner we pull it — even if it gives us major egg — and we put it back in his column the better we are in my opinion.”

In a statement given to Barrett News Media by a Fox News spokesperson, Baier denies the claims.

“The full context of the e-mail is not reported in this book. I never said the Trump campaign ‘was really pissed’ – that was from an external email that I referenced within my note. This was an email sent AFTER election night. In the immediate days following the election, the vote margins in Arizona narrowed significantly and I communicated these changes to our team along with what people on the ground were saying and predicting district by district. I wanted to analyze at what point (what vote margin) would we have to consider pulling the call for Biden. I also noted that I fully supported our decision desk’s call and would defend it on air.”

The book from Baker and Glasser also reports two Fox News employees were fired after the decision to call Arizona for the now-President, with one of the firings labeled as a retirement while the other, Chris Stirewalt, was labeled a “restructuring” of the Decision Desk staff. Stirewalt made the claim he was fired by Fox News, which the network has continually denied.

A Fox News spokesperson also told Barrett News Media “FOX News made an election night call of historic magnitude and was first to do so. We stood by the call in the days that followed, it was proven correct, and other news organizations eventually joined us.”

Yankees Games Will Remain on AppleTV+ During Aaron Judge Home Run Chase

New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge is on pace to set the franchise, as well as American League, record for home runs in a season, and Major League Baseball has announced they will not move games previously scheduled for AppleTV+ to a more traditional outlet.

An MLB spokesperson told Andrew Marchand of The New York Post the games would remain on the digital streaming platform regardless of Judge’s chase.

Judge currently sits at 59 home runs. Roger Maris hit 61 homers during the 1961 season, setting both the Yankees and American League record.

The Yankees will play the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday and Wednesday on YES Network, before beginning a four-game series against the Red Sox with games airing on Fox, YES, and ESPN in addition to AppleTV+.

MLB Network will air live look-ins during each Judge at-bat until he breaks the record.

While television coverage remains unchanged, there are changes, however, on the radio side for Judge’s historic chase. Earlier this week, Yankees radio play-by-play announcer John Sterling announced he will forgo a previously scheduled vacation to announce games scheduled in Toronto.
