Fernando Bauermeister New Florida GM for Spanish Broadcasting System

Spanish Broadcasting System is adding a new manager in Florida. All Access reports Fernando Bauermeister has been named general manager of WYPO in Orlando and WSUN in Tampa Bay/Ft. Lauderdale. Baumermeister, who spent a decade working at SBS starting in 1995, says he’s happy to return.

“I am excited to come back to the SBS family and help the company grow its footprint in the Florida market,” Bauermeister said. “We’ve put together a dream team comprised of experienced and successful professionals who are actively helping local and national advertisers achieve their marketing goals. Albert Rodriguez, President and Chief Operating Officer of SBS, heaped praise on the re-hiring.

“Fernando is a valuable asset to our company,” Rodriguez said. “He has extensive experience in the audio market, specifically in the Orlando and Tampa area. We are happy to have him on board and in a short period of time have seen great results.”

Bauermeister formerly worked at the Cox-owned WOEX. Miami-based Spanish Broadcast System was founded in 1983 and owns radio stations in Florida, Puerto Rico, Los Angeles, Chicago, and New York.

Domonique Foxworth Still Finding Himself As Podcast Host

Domonique Foxworth is four episodes into his new podcast, The Domonique Foxworth Show, which releases a new episode every Tuesday and Thursday. Foxworth has been known to be entertaining when he is on different TV shows or podcasts for ESPN as a guest or an analyst, but now he has a different role with his show.

Foxworth was a guest on the GoJo with Mike Golic Jr. podcast on Friday and he said he thought the show was going good so far, but there are still some things that he felt he still needs to figure out to give listeners the best of him.

“We’re 4 episodes in. I think it’s good, it’s great all things considered but it’s hard to do all of the things that you want to do at once. The best version of myself, I don’t think I’ve figured out how to bring it out, the most entertaining version of myself. Hosting and trying to be smart, funny, fun all that stuff at the same time is hard. I’m going to get there.”

Even though Foxworth is still finding what works for his show, he brings the same mentality that he had as a defensive back in the NFL into whatever he does. He told Golic Jr. he doesn’t understand why some people expect to fail at certain things because whatever thing is brought to him, he knows that he can do it.

“It’s not a thing that you discover. I think what happens is you discover that other people aren’t like that. I think most of us just think that everyone sees the world the same way we do and then you think other people are crazy for not seeing it the way you do…I’m not stupid with my confidence. I think I’m self-aware because I’m aware that I’m irrationally confident if that makes any sense. I don’t understand people that expect to fail. When you ask me to do something, my first thought is I can do it.”

Rich Zeoli: No Media Coverage of Oregon Student Chants Directed At BYU

Conservative radio host Rich Zeoli took exception to the lack of media coverage over the weekend after students at the University of Oregon chanted hostile phrases about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the denomination that founded Brigham Young University, Oregon’s opponent Saturday.

“Where was the coverage of this in the media? I only saw this on Outkick.com,” Rich Zeoli said. “I did not see this make the national news. I mean, can you imagine if you’re standing up there and you say eff another religious group. Eff the Muslims for example. My god. It would be ‘Trump’s America’, ‘white supremacy’. You say eff the Mormons and (the media) is like ‘ahh who cares?'”

Zeoli’s main point of contention was the media coverage surrounding the reported racial slurs shouted by BYU fans at the Duke volleyball team last month. After much media scrutiny, BYU later revealed no evidence was found to corroborate Rachel Richardson, the Duke volleyball player who accused a student of racial harassment, claims.

“It’s got zero media attention. That’s amazing to me, that no one is covering this. ESPN wrote about that whole fugazi BYU volleyball thing, right? ESPN covered that thing extensively. I’m looking on ESPN’s website — and ESPN is so woke now — there’s not a single word about the BYU game. Not one. And there’s video of this. There’s video of an entire section shouting eff the Mormons and not a single coverage of this. Outside of some local or regional coverage in the area and Outkick.com, that’s it. That’s all there is.”

John Sterling To Call All Remaining Yankees Games

Ryan Ruocco was supposed to call the three-game series in Toronto between the Blue Jays and New York Yankees. Plans have changed though. The Yankees and WFAN have decided that John Sterling will be on the radio broadcasts the rest of the way.

Andrew Marchand of the New York Post was the first to break the news on Twitter. He says the return was Sterling’s idea. He did not want to miss the chance to call some of the most significant home runs of Aaron Judge’s historic season.

In June, Sterling announced that he would build between 25 and 30 days off into the second half of the schedule. He was not facing any health concerns. He just wanted to avoid traveling as much as possible.

“It is just to recharge my batteries,” John Sterling told The New York Post at the time. “I’ve been doing road games with teams for 52 years. I love this game, but I hate being on the road.”

Justin Shackil, Rickie Ricardo, Howard Kellman, and Brendan Burke are among those that have called games on Sterling’s days off.

As of September 19, Aaron Judge has hit 59 home runs on the 2022 season. That is two shy of Roger Maris’s 1961 mark of 61 home runs, which is a record for both the New York Yankees and the American League.

John Sterling is not the only Yankees broadcaster hoping to be a part of history. Last week, YES Network play-by-play man Michael Kay admitted that “it will be a bummer” if the landmark shots happen in games that aren’t airing on the YES Network.

After Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) sent dozens of illegal immigrants on a flight to Martha’s Vineyard, Democratic challenger Charlie Crist told CNN’s Alysin Camerota the current governor’s actions could be considered kidnapping, which Camerota pushed back on. Monday, podcast host Keith Olbermann took exception to Camerota’s comments.

“CNN anchor Alysin Camerota, formerly of Fox News, replied to him ‘Yes, they were lured on false pretenses — that’s true — but when they got to Martha’s Vineyard, they were certainly treated very humanely. Is that really kidnapping?’ Yes! Yes it is really kidnapping! Seriously. Alysin ‘Other than that how did you enjoy the play, Mrs. Lincoln’ Camerota, today’s Worst Person in the World!”

Olbermann said Camerota’s comments are the “latest example from the transformation of CNN into a fascist propaganda outlet” under new president Chris Licht. Olbermann has taken extreme exception to the new direction of the cable network after Licht’s hiring earlier this year. The two previously worked together at MSNBC, with Olbermann saying American’s “don’t know how concerning” Licht’s hiring is for the nation, and also claiming he thought Licht “ate paste” during their tenure together. Olbermann has also called Licht a “corporate butt-kisser” and a “right-wing hatchet man“.

President Joe Biden sat down for a wide-ranging interview with Scott Pelley of 60 Minutes that aired Sunday, and SuperTalk 99.7 WTN morning host Dan Mandis thought the questions were a bit too open.

“Clearly and obviously, Scott Pelley gave Joe Biden an out when he asked the question in a very generic way,” Mandis said before replaying a question asked by Pelley in regards to the President’s son, Hunter, and if any of his “troubles” have caused conflict for the President or the United States.

“It’s like CBS told the Biden administration ‘We need to ask the question, but we’re going to ask it in a way that focuses on Hunter Biden’s troubles with drugs and not on the allegations of corruption.’ That way, Joe doesn’t really have to answer to the allegations of influence peddling and corruption, and Pelley and CBS try and keep their ‘reporter cred’. To me, that’s trying to pull a fast one on the American people.

The comments from Mandis came after saying Pelley “drew the short straw” by having to interview the President. Mandis also gave Pelley “sort of kudos” for pushing back on some of the President’s answers but also said the 60 Minutes correspondent “could have gone a lot further”.

Susie Piotrkowski New espnW Vice President

ESPN: Monday Night Football Overlap A ‘Test’

A Monday Night Football doubleheader happens tonight with a significant overlap between the games. Tennessee and Buffalo kickoff at 7:15 PM ET on ESPN and Minnesota and Philadelphia kicks off at 8:30 PM ET on ABC. The worldwide leader says the presentation of the two games is a “test” for how games will air in the future.

According to a report from John Ourand of Sports Business Journal, ESPN and ABC will employ a “NFL RedZone look-and-feel” at times, with a scoreboard for the differing game listed on screen at all times, as well as live look-ins during each game.

“As we talked about the new deal, we wanted to increase the exclusive game inventory that we have for Monday Night Football, and we wanted to continue to increase our ABC presence,” ESPN Senior Vice President of Programming and Acquisitions Julie Sobieski told SBJ. “This became one way for us to express incremental inventory and to do something unique.”

Sobieski equated ESPN’s doubleheader coverage to that of their college football portfolio, noting the network navigates several different games airing on several different networks during several different time windows each Saturday during the fall.

Earlier this month, NFL Vice President of Broadcasting Mike North told WFAN’s Boomer & Gio the idea to overlap the Monday Night Football broadcasts was the NFL’s idea, not ESPN’s.

“When we did the new deals with ESPN and the Disney family, ABC has been getting back in the NFL family over the course of the last couple of years,” North said. They’ve been simulcasting the Wild Card game, they’ve been simulcasting a couple of Monday Night Football games, and they wanted a couple of games of their own. So what we talked to them about was what’s the right way to do that?

Tim Scheld Named New RTDNA Chair

WCBS News Director Tim Scheld was named as the Chair of the Radio Television Digital News Association Friday.

During the group’s 2022 convention, Scheld became the first chairman to come from radio since 2019.

“It’s great that radio, local radio in particular – has this great seat at the table in such an important and influential organization,” Scheld told Inside Radio. “It’s a very difficult time for our business. But our local news journalists are doing some of the most impactful and important work of our careers.”

Scheld replaces outgoing chair Allison McGinley, who serves as News Director of WKMG-TV, the CBS affiliate in Orlando.

The RTDNA also released the findings of a study conducted to research trust in local journalism. 60% of respondents said the participation of one journalist can compel people to tune out. The study also revealed trust is lost over time, and no “silver bullet” was found to win or lose it.

Tyler Polumbus Leaving 104.3 The Fan

Former Denver Broncos offensive lineman turned radio host Tyler Polumbus is leaving 104.3 The Fan.

Polumbus revealed his departure on Twitter Sunday, thanking listeners for the fun and memories he made through the years.

Paired with Darren McKee for The Drive on The Fan, Polumbus won an award from the Colorado Broadcasters Association earlier this year for Best Regularly Scheduled Entertainment Program.

He re-joined the station in 2019. He left the station in 2017 to serve as the sideline reporter for Broncos radio broadcasts on iHeartMedia’s 850 KOA.

A lifelong Colorado resident, Polumbus attended Cherry Creek High School before playing collegiately at the University of Colorado. The 37-year-old spent time with the Broncos, Lions, Seahawks, Redskins, and Falcons before joining the media.

He did not reveal any future career plans.
