Candace Owens Rips Social Media Outlets for Silencing Critics

0

Podcaster and Daily Wire commentator Candace Owens is speaking out against the silencing of critics on social media. During her “Candace” podcast Friday, Owens talked about former kickboxer Andrew Tate.

Tate has come under fire for saying that men should get 80% of what their women make on OnlyFans. The London-based platform primarily caters to sex workers who produce pornography.

“No, I don’t agree with that. But I would host him, and I would debate him on that,” she said. “I’m not offended by him even saying it. I think it’s stupid, and I would debate him any day of the week on that because I think it’s just, it’s not even productive to society. But why is he getting banned for this?”

Big Tech has banned Tate from YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok for allegedly violating the platform’s policies on “dangerous organizations and individuals.”

Owens argued that some individuals use their social media platforms to promote gender assignment surgery for young children, but Big Tech never takes steps to censor them.

“What’s worse: these celebrities that are advocating for the harm of our children through all of these various means, or a guy that’s a part of a ‘manosphere’ that’s clearly playing a part?” Owens added.

Todd Starnes: Don Lemon Lost Primetime Gig Because No One Watches

0

Syndicated radio host and author Todd Starnes believes CNN is moving Don Lemon to mornings because he’s failing to produce ratings on his nightly show.

During his “ToddCast” podcast Friday, Starnes sounded off about the left-wing pundit’s move to CNN’s new morning show.

“Some bad news for little Donnie Lemon,” said Starnes. “Lemon lost his nighttime gig because nobody was watching.”

Last week, Lemon addressed critics who believe that his new job is a demotion.

“I was presented with an opportunity that I can’t pass up on this network,” Lemon said. “And we have a new boss who is a morning show impresario, and he wants a morning show that will kick off the editorial direction of the network every single day.”

Lemon added that he was honored to be asked to co-host the show which will include Poppy Harlow and Kaitlin Collins.

“Don Lemon is one of the girls now on the morning show there at CNN,” added Starnes “

Lemon said any speculation that management is making this move amid poor ratings is simply “fodder for Twitter.”

Kyle Brandt Doesn’t Fear ‘Absurd’

0

In July of 2016, Kyle Brandt was living in Southern California ending a nine-year run as executive producer of The Jim Rome Show. A couple of weeks later, he was on camera in New York City as one of the hosts the NFL Network’s new morning show.

On August 1st, 2016, Good Morning Football premiered and six years later, the show is still going strong.

And earlier this month, Brandt was rewarded with a new long-term contract with NFL Media.

“I’m thrilled, flattered, honored, and excited,” said Brandt.  “I’m very proud of what I’ve done there and extremely honored to be rewarded for it. I say the same thing when an NFL player signs a big contract extension. Contracts are not rewards for what you’ve done. They’re investments for what you’re going to do and I look at it that way as well.”

The weekday edition of Good Morning Football, hosted by Brandt, Jamie Erdahl, Jason McCourty and Peter Schrager, airs Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM-10:00 AM Eastern and has been a huge hit for football fans to get their day started with a mix of football and fun.  After previous morning shows NFL AM and NFL HQ, the NFL Network went in a different direction with GMFB and it’s certainly paid off.

Especially for Brandt.

“The origin story is absurd,” said Brandt. “Marvel would not believe this story. They took a shot on us…a really risky one and the show could have went into the side of a mountain in two weeks. And now we’ve done it for over six years and it’s like the small little company that we built within the massive NFL thing. I’m so proud of it. It’s a place where you come in and you have complete creative freedom to say anything you want about anything in the NFL and that’s so rare.”

A native of the Chicago suburb of Hinsdale, Illinois, Brandt was a running back for Princeton University and then embarked on a career in broadcasting and entertainment. In addition to his sports experience over the years, Brandt has appeared on the NBC soap opera Days of Our Lives while also starting on the MTV reality show The Real World: Chicago

From an on-air sports broadcasting perspective, Brandt cut his teeth during his time with Jim Rome.

The experience he attained in “The Jungle” was, as Brandt pointed out during our phone conversation, “massive”.

“It was like being a coach for nine years and then starting your playing career,” said Brandt. “It was being a world-class director for years and then being like you know what I think I’m going to become an actor. It was like going through a nine-year master class before taking the stage.”

Brandt learned a lot about the business of sports broadcasting over those nine years working on the Rome show.  There were two things specifically that resonated with Brandt that he continues to follow to this day and they are both a big reason for his success.

“Work ethic and preparation,” Brandt said of Rome. “When I would work with Jim, he was easily at the part of his career that he could have started mailing things in. Why not? He was successful. You’re a made guy. You’re a hall of famer. I was always so impressed with it. I’m a prepare freak…almost obsessive neurotic preparer for something I could definitely wing…definitely and I just won’t do it.”

GMFB has carved out a niche among football fans because it’s unlike other sports television shows. While there has to be an “x’s and o’s” element when you’re doing a football show or any show in sports, what made Brandt and company successful for this long has been the ability to simply have fun in the mornings.

Yes, it’s a football show on a football network, but it’s also a morning show and that brings about a commitment to entertain the viewers.

“I see other shows sometimes,” said Brandt. “I watch and it doesn’t seem like the people on the show even like sports. They’re so mad about everything. You can’t wake up at 7:00 AM, pour your coffee, turn on the TV, and there’s someone with a furrowed brow screaming at someone across the table. There’s a place for that TV…I just don’t think it’s first thing in the morning. We get crazy sometimes and we get ridiculous sometimes. I will go to my grave saying sports are still fun.”

This season, there was a big change at GMFB for season seven and that was the exodus of original host Kay Adams after being part of the show for six years. Adams was replaced by former NFL on CBS sideline reporter Jamie Erdahl who will continue to have select assignments for CBS Sports.

Maybe change wasn’t the right word when it comes to GMFB.  It’s more like a seamless transition.

“People ask what’s the change like and I just say easy,” said Brandt. “Kay has a huge footprint on this show and is one of the founding members who started this with us. Jamie is a tenured, pedigreed sports media journalist who comes in prepared early and ready with thoughts and questions, production ideas, and with editorial suggestions every single day. We didn’t know what it was going to be like because we’ve never been through this before.  It’s just been so easy and such a pleasure to have Jamie.”

GMFB is just one part of Brandt’s new deal with NFL Media.

In addition to remaining with the morning show, Brandt will also be making appearances on the NFL’s digital and social content while also developing new content ideas for NFL Media.

“I’m thrilled and it’s the same thing I would say about Good Morning Football,” said Brandt.  “They hand us this pallet and they say paint what you want. Creativity. What is in your head this morning about the Bengals? Go ahead and paint it. Whatever you want to do. They said do anything you want in the media group. Come up with ideas.  Paint your pictures. If you want to develop something, great.”

In addition to his NFL Media duties, Brandt signed a deal back in August with Omaha Productions for content on ESPN+. The new show Kyle Brandt’s Basement debuted on August 8th and features guest interviews and discussion of the ins and outs of the NFL.

Brandt and Omaha were initially connected when he auditioned last summer to do the ManningCast of ESPN’s Monday Night Football with Peyton and Eli Manning.

There was an initial thought of having a third voice as part of the show.

“It went really well,” said Brandt. “It was the craziest acid trip moment of my career to be in a Zoom with Peyton and Eli watching a Ravens/Browns game talking football. They were so good and they didn’t need a third host no matter who it was. They said thanks for doing it but let’s look for something down the road.”

Well, down the road, Brandt would eventually receive a phone call from a private number in the Denver area code. Brandt answered the phone and said “hello”.

And then Brandt heard…“Kyle it’s Peyton Manning,” said Brandt as he recalled the phone call.

“It’s so bizarre but they’ve been so supportive.  They came back to me and said we want to be in business with you and we think you should do this show that we have in mind and we’re going to do it in your basement.”

Kyle Brandt is a busy man these days. From producer/coach to on-air personality/player, Brandt’s career in sports continues to skyrocket.

Amazon Prime Video’s Thursday Night Football Debut Was a Smashing Success

0

I couldn’t handle some of the criticism of Amazon Prime Video during their Thursday Night Football debut.

Believe me when I tell you there are valid criticisms. The audio at times was a disaster. The pre-game show was awkward. A bunch of former players doing television for their first time were significantly better than Tony Gonzalez, who’s been working as a TV analyst since Barack Obama’s first term. Public viewing, as detailed by WFAN morning host Gregg Giannotti, weren’t pleasant. All understandable and real critiques.

And yet, I couldn’t help but notice the reaction from many in sports media to criticisms that I’d equate to hypothetical problems experiences in made-for-tv products and infomercials.

You know the type. You’re scrolling through the channels at 12:41 AM and hear a commercial with that distinct voice: “ARE YOU TIRED OF BURNING CHOCOLATE CHIPS IN YOUR USUAL SKILLET AND NOT BEING ABLE TO WASH THEM OUT?”

Uh…no, I’ve never experienced that problem in my entire existence, and no one else I know has either. You’re literally inventing problems. I had that same reaction Thursday night.

“This sucks. How am I supposed to flip between channels during the commercials?”, I saw one user tweet. What else would you be trying to watch on Thursday that would have warranted a channel change during a commercial break? Were you actually torn between a re-run of Young Sheldon and Thursday Night Football? Oh my goodness, you couldn’t flip back and forth easily between Celebrity Family Feud and the game?! How tragic!

I continue to be baffled by this idea that streaming works for literally every other entertainment avenue outside of live sports. I legitimately know one person who still has cable. One. And he’s in his 50s. The overwhelming majority of people watch television through a streaming platform in one way or another. And yet an NFL game being on the platform run by the world’s largest retailer is somehow where the line should be drawn?

Listen, I understand as a country we’re pretty averse to change. New things are scary. But if you’re watching literally all your television through a streaming platform, the amount of consternation I saw last week was embarrassing. NFL coverage is about familiarity. People like what they know. So having to open up an app on their tv to watch Al Michaels and Kirk Herbstreit announce a game was a foreign concept for some reason.

Critiques of the video quality. Critiques of Herbstreit or Michaels. Critiques of graphics. They all fell on deaf ears for me. If video quality was an issue, that sounds like a “you problem”. I live in a county that has more dairy cows than people, and yet I have enough bandwidth to watch Thursday Night Football flawlessly with my wife simultaneously streaming Big Brother while those in major metropolitan areas complained of buffering with probably triple the megabits? That doesn’t seem to be a Prime Video issue.

Herbstreit was as good as he is on college games. Michaels was fantastic as always. Kaylee Hartung’s sideline reports were informative and helpful to viewers.

The Amazon Prime Video graphic package immediately leapt to the top of the heap in NFL broadcasts. If the ever-spectacular Fred Gaudelli had thrown an NBC logo in the upper right corner of the screen, you never would have known you weren’t watching Sunday Night Football.

And for a platform airing its first broadcast, facing unwarranted scrutiny, I think that’s as high praise as you can bestow on it.

Amazon Prime Video’s debut was a smashing success, and in my estimation, calling it anything but that reveals an inherent bias that the streaming platform was in a no-win situation with people to begin.

Jerry Jones Wants to Take Phone Calls From Frustrated Cowboys Fans on 105.3 the Fan

0

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is as frustrated as any fan of his team is and sounds like he is willing to hear from them on the radio.

Listeners of the K&C Masterpiece heard from Jones on Friday and the owner indicated that he would like to hear from the fans during his interviews but first wanted to clarify that he wouldn’t sell the team.

“We used to have fans call in and I’d answer a question,” Jones said. “I’d be mad too. I will tell you right now, the best way to get something done is to have [the question] come straight to me. Those same fans know I’ll never sell this team.”

Jones then said that he is willing to have the fans call in and express their concerns.

“I sure would welcome the segment… I live with it every day. Let me say this, I’m so sensitive to our fans [with the reaction to every decision I make],” Jones said. “I will tell you… you look around, and [see that] rehiring or shuffling out general managers on top of shuffling out coaches – I haven’t seen that be the secret to success in the league.”

Ken Carman: An NFL TV Partner Is Going to Move to Strictly Streaming

0

After the debut of Thursday Night Football on Amazon Prime Video last night, 92.3 The Fan morning host Ken Carman predicted more games will become stream exclusives in the future.

“Somebody had to be the guinea pig,” Carman said of the streaming experiment. “At some time, someone’s gonna do it. Now, Fox doesn’t have a streaming service. It’s just Fox. So that means CBS or ESPN. ESPN does have ESPN+ and Disney+ in their family. Someone is just gonna say ‘The game is on Paramount+ and that’s it. That’s where you can find it.’

“We always have these agreements of local TV where, ok if the game is on and Cleveland and Pittsburgh because it’s Cleveland versus Pittsburgh, ok the game may be on KDKA in Pittsburgh and here it will be on News 5. At some point, somebody’s just gonna go ‘You know what? We paid this much money for it and it’s just gonna be on’ — I’m looking at CBS because they’re the one with it — CBS is just gonna go ‘Thing’s on Paramount+. Go get Paramount+ you can get it for free for a month. You wanna watch the Chargers? Paramount+. See ya.’ Someone’s gonna do it.”

The Ken Carman Show with Anthony Lima did point out that the majority of American families do have an Amazon Prime account, which contains a subscription to Amazon Prime Video.

“It’s just boxes every day, and this is the one good thing I get out of it,” Anthony Lima said.

Mad Dog Russo was upset about the games being on Amazon. Because he’s upset that people can’t find it,” Carman said.

“The guy on satellite radio is upset that somebody can’t find something?”, producer Anthony Aflord said as the two hosts laughed out loud.

Omaha Productions Strikes Deal With Cousin Sal and Jimmy Kimmel

0

Omaha Productions is deep into the digital content world and it continues to go deeper with its latest deal with Mush Media, co-founded by Sal Iacono.

Iacono, better known as Cousin Sal, will help to produce podcast and video content as part of a multiyear deal. As part of the deal, all seven of Mush Media’s podcasts, including Cousin Sal’s Against All Odds and Extra Points shows will be a part of Omaha’s lineup of original audio programming. Omaha will produce video versions of the podcasts and they will be published on ESPN’s YouTube channel. ESPN will retain the distribution and ad sales rights to the Mush Media podcasts, just as they do with the Omaha Audio Network.

Late-night host and comedian Jimmy Kimmel will also partner with both companies to write and produce original videos for Omaha’s social media feeds.

“Cousin Sal has been making sports fans laugh for two decades. He’s built a great reputation by delivering fans content in a fun and authentic way,” said Peyton Manning, the founder of Omaha Productions. “Having the opportunity to team up with him and Jimmy to create original audio and video is an exciting next step as we continue to build Omaha.”

“I’m very excited to join the Omaha family. Over the years I’ve won so much money betting on Peyton and Eli I feel like I should be paying them. But since the contract is already signed, I think we’re good,” Iacono added.
