Kay Adams Working on Potential Deal with NFL Network

0

Kay Adams left the popular NFL Network morning show Good Morning Football in May. Even though she is now working with FanDuel, it doesn’t mean her time is completely over with the network.

“I love NFL Network and NFL Media,” Adams said. “But as far as opportunities there — we’re still trying. We’re still efforting to get something done because I miss it.”

Adams spent six years hosting Good Morning Football and told the New York Post that she loved her time there but she knew she wanted a new challenge when her contract expired.

“I knew last year that I wasn’t coming back to Good Morning Football,” Adams said. “My contract was up. I didn’t want to renew because I just wanted to try something different.”

“It wasn’t like I left for something,” Adams continued, “you know what it is? I’ll be totally honest with you. I felt like my work there was done. Like, ‘Do I stay here, and it’s comfortable, however many more years, in this job that I love, and is a grind, of course? Or do I just want to see what’s out there?'”

Dan Mandis: ‘Deathbed Monologue’ Proudest Radio Moment

0

SuperTalk 99.7 WTN morning host Dan Mandis revealed his proudest moment of his radio career during a discussion on Nashville’s Morning News Wednesday.

After discussing the upcoming autobiography from AC/DC frontman Brian Johnson, Mandis began discussing his favorite broadcasting moments, before deciding on one segment in particular that meant a lot to the host and one of his listeners.

“I did a whole monologue on people who wait until someone’s on their deathbed to reconnect. I actually inspired a woman — (she) heard that monologue — and she reconnected with her father. She wrote me a note — I wish I could remember what city it was in — but she reconnected with her father and she literally thanked me for that monologue. Couple of years later, her father passed away and she sent me another note. She said thank you for once again inspiring me to reconnect because once he passed away, there were no regrets. For me, that was my proudest moment. Because I was able to help someone. I was able to inspire someone to do the right thing.”

Mandis, who recently noted he nearly joined the military instead of entering the radio business, continued by saying he marvels at the fact that he gets paid to work with people he loves at a job he loves every morning.

Marcus Spears: Arguing With Stephen A. Smith Like Arguing With Family

0

Marcus Spears has been one of the rising stars at ESPN since he joined the SEC Network in 2014. He has had the chance to not only talk football on First Take and Get Up, but other sports as well and he appreciates that ESPN has allowed him to talk about both football and basketball on some noteworthy shows.

Spears was a guest on the latest episode of The Dave Pasch Podcast and he said that he is glad that he is not known as ESPN as just a guy who can talk about football.

“I do TV just like I did when I was talking to my dad and my uncles about football and basketball. I think that’s the one thing First Take and Get Up allowed me to do was to talk more than just football. I never wanted to be pigeonholed into not thinking that this is just a football guy and that’s the only thing he does.

“Football is my passion. It’s what I love,” Spears continued. “It’s something that I have my 10,000 hours in. I understand the game. I have a ton of respect for the game. I have a lot of relationships in the game. I played basketball growing up, was very highly-recruited, so I understand that game on some fairly high levels as well.”

When Spears is on First Take with Stephen A Smith, he told Pasch it reminds him of the debates that he has had with his family in the past and those arguments helped prepare him for facing off with Smith about the hot topics in sports:

“Being on First Take with Stephen A just reminds me of what I did with my dad, uncles, family members, and best friends. It’s a debate show like we like to call it because we are politically correct, but it’s really just an argument show. To get your opinion across, you argue. When I was arguing or debating with my uncles and with my dad, obviously they didn’t think I knew anything about what I was talking about, but it got me ready for that arena.

“I think it really starts with respect knowing that you are entering his domain. But, Stephen A knows that I’m not afraid to go toe-to-toe and touch every topic. When we disagree, we disagree.”

One of the reasons Spears respects Smith is that he enjoys the fact that Smith will defer to the athlete he is debating with for their knowledge rather than trying to prove he knows more about the game than they do:

“If you watch Stephen A , he defers a lot to your expertise whether you are a former NBA or NFL player. I think he never tries to go toe-to-toe with football acumen when it comes from actual experience. He goes at it from a reporter standpoint and I say a lot of times, even from a fan standpoint because Stephen A, whether you love him or hate him, he does give a perspective of a sportswriter and also a fan. We can grill him about how bad the Knicks have been….Ultimately, when you watch when I’m on or Ryan Clark’s on or Dan Orlovsky, he defers to your football knowledge as a former player. That’s not a knock, but we respect him for that.”

Pat McAfee To Take Hiatus From Smackdown To Be On College GameDay

0

Pat McAfee revealed details of his future on his YouTube show on Wednesday. It was announced late Tuesday night that he is now a full-time member of the College GameDay cast for ESPN.

McAfee revealed that discussions about a role at ESPN began at the end of the last college football season. He sat in a suite at the College Football Playoff National Championship Game with ESPN President Jimmy Pitaro. The two have been sharing ideas and negotiating ever since.

According to McAfee, the deal got done earlier this week and has him locked into College GameDay for the next two seasons.

“I am a lucky ing human. I know that,” Pat McAfee said. “I am trying to enjoy that as much as possible. I am living the dumbest life possible. I am trying to work my ass off, so hopefully karma does come around a little bit and if I didn’t work my ass off, Tim and Sally McAfee would be embarrassed.”

McAfee has been on College GameDay in the past. In 2019, he had a deal with ESPN that saw him with his toe in the company’s waters in several different ways including GameDay, Thursday night college football, and appearances on Get Up.

When that contract ended, McAfee said the timing felt wrong to try and work out a new deal. It was impossible to keep up the pace all of his jobs had created. Now, when it comes to ESPN, he can turn all of his attention to College GameDay, which he has held in high regard for as long as he can remember.

“It is an honor. It’s a show that is an institution. It’s a Saturday staple in all of our lives, from Truck drivers to suits and everybody in between. Saturday morning has a routine and it revolves around College GameDay.”

One thing will have to change. Pat McAfee said the WWE insisted he take time off to make his new role on College GameDay a priority. He says that his role on Smackdown is as important to him as anything that he does, so he is still part of the company, but he will not be on TV for a while.

“I am still very much in the WWE family and as one OG from the WWE said to me in a message that was very heartfelt, ‘Now one of our guys is on GameDay.’” He said. “So I am still very much part of the WWE family, will still very much be doing things, but for the good of college football and the good of the opportunity that is in front of me right now, I’ll be focused on College GameDay on Saturdays, this show Monday through Friday and then trying to watch every NFL game on Sundays.”

Triple H, the WWE’s Chief Content Office, confirmed the arrangement and the company’s support for Pat via Twitter.

McAfee insisted that his audience know that nothing in his media career is as important to him as his daily show. He said that every decision he has made in terms of other opportunities has been driven by what it means for the daily show.

“It has turned into something that I am passionate about and love more than any other chapter in the rest of my entire life,” he said. “I will never sacrifice this show for anything.”

Boomer & Gio: Acting in WFAN ‘Carton Dummy’ Video ‘Borderline Criminal’

0

The “Carton Dummy” has become a popular gag on the social media channels of WFAN, but this morning Boomer & Gio couldn’t contain their criticism for the latest video.

In the video, WFAN executive producer Dov Kramer returns to the office after missing the last month due to a health issue. When asked if a “Welcome Back” banner is for him, he’s told no, it’s for the Carton Dummy, Kramer says “just wait until Boomer finds out about this”.

“The acting in this borderline criminal. Its so bad,” Gregg Giannotti said.

“That’s horrific,” Boomer Esiason said.

“I mean, I love Dov, I’m glad he’s healthy. I know he had a very scary couple of weeks, but that is porno acting. That’s what that is,” Giannotti added before impersonating the executive producer in an adult film situation.

“What are they doing? They have so much time on their hands, I guess,” Esiason quipped.

“Spike (Eskin), our program director, just tweeted out 87% of our social stuff is all Carton dummy stuff,” Giannotti said.

“Is it really?”, a dumbfounded Esiason asked.

“Basically, yeah,” Giannotti concluded.

WFAN Program Director Spike Eskin later tweeted this was the final appearance of the Carton Dummy.

Colin Cowherd: ‘The Volume Launched To Keep Advertisers Away From My Competition’

0

Colin Cowherd was as candid as he could be this week on The Jason Barrett Podcast. Barrett reminded Cowherd that during the 2019 BSM Summit, Cowherd told him he didn’t make a lot of time for podcasting executives at iHeartMedia because there was no way to profit from it.

Times have certainly changed as Cowherd just announced the addition of five executives to his own podcasting company The Volume. He said he was never opposed to podcasting, it just wasn’t something he gave much enough attention.

“I’m always looking for new things and I saw guys who were crushing it like Bill [Simmons] and I was happy for him. I had responsibilities and outlets and they were lucrative.”

The Volume came about because during a time when most radio shows were struggling, The Herd was experiencing uncommon success. Julie Talbot, President of Premiere Networks, called Cowherd to say that even at the height of the pandemic, his FOX Sports Radio show was experiencing ratings growth and revenue had remained stable.

“I remember getting off the phone and thinking ‘Wait a minute. My show is sold out and the ratings are good. What happens when the pandemic ends and cars are back on the road? I’m going to have nowhere to put all these spots,’” Cowherd told Barrett. “I’m going to have to create a business so if somebody says ‘I want to be in The Herd’ I can say ‘Alright, we have availability on the show, TV and radio, or on this new network I formed. Or they’ll give that money to my rivals!”

He admitted that the network has grown even faster than he had originally planned for. He attributes that success to iHeartMedia and the partnership and revenue-sharing deal the company created for The Volume.

The future is bright for The Volume according to Colin. That is why he chose to add to the company’s executive team. The company is being forced to evolve in order to keep up with what the audience is looking for.

“We started as a podcast company,” he said. “Today I would call us a digital-first, digital/podcasting/gambling company. The gambling vertical is going to continue to grow for us.”

Tomi Lahren: Alyssa Farah Griffin Latest ‘Soft RINO’ On The View

0

In her Fox News Commentary Wednesday, Tomi Lahren had strong words for new The View co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin.

The former press secretary for Vice President Mike Pence and The Pentagon joined The View as its latest “conservative” panelist, which Lahren lamented.

“In an attempt to create faux balance, the show has spent the last five plus years bouncing from soft RINO to soft RINO and this latest addition to the table is no different,” said Lahren. After pointing out Griffin’s tenure in the Trump Administration and her stance that she doesn’t want to see Trump in the White House again, Lahren said Griffin’s selection wasn’t a great choice.

“She is entitled to her opinion but if she thinks she is going to now be the voice for the 74 million Americans who voted for Trump, she is sadly mistaken,” Lahren continued. “But that’s what she claimed on Good Morning America earlier this week. That she can be some kind of bridge between Republicans and Trump supporters and tell us what the future of the GOP can and should be.

“Um, sorry Alyssa. We don’t need you telling us who to support and what to think, especially as you perch yourself on The View and look down on us. The liberals might be giving you some love and affection right now because you’re anti-Trump, but don’t be surprised if that comes back to bite you in the behind!”

Lahren’s comments come after she also criticized journalists for their influence on what she called “low information” voters.

After discussing a story by the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism that found only half of users who share news stories online actually read the story, and 20% only read the headline, Lahren took members of the media to task.

“If so many admit to only reading a headline and most of the headlines are written by journalists with an admitted liberal bias, a slant, a knack for tilting the scales to the left, could this be why so many low-information viewers, readers and voters make sure poor decision at the ballot box? The moral of the story is this, don’t believe everything you read. There’s an old saying in journalism, if your mother tells you she loves you, fact check it twice. Especially if it’s coming from CNN!”

Thursday Proclaimed WABC Day in New York

0

WABC has continued to celebrate 100 years on the air with several on-air promotions, but New York state and city officials have proclaimed Thursday, September 8th as WABC Day.

In addition to Thursday being WABC Day, the station’s Bruce “Cousin Brucie” Morrow will play the original vinyl recording of the Meet The Beatles album at 2:00 PM on Wednesday to recreate the band’s second appearance in America. The disc jockey introduced The Beatles for their first stop on their 1965 summer tour at Shea Stadium.

The 86-year-old told Newsday “I don’t like the word ‘recreate,’ but I will get into the emotion of what happened and what it was like being involved with that particular part of our culture.”

Red Apple Media owner John Catsimatidis, operator of WABC, has also announced the WABC studio will be dedicated to honor Morrow, the longest serving on-air personality in New York and the United States. He began his career in 1959.

Catsimatidis also announced Cousin Brucie will be inducted into the WABC Hall of Fame.
