Mike Missanelli Joining BetRivers

Former 97.5 The Fanatic host Mike Missanelli has been announced as a podcaster and brand ambassador for BetRivers.

Missanelli will publish two weekly podcasts, beginning Thursday, that will be carried on BetRivers Network and other major podcast platforms.

“I’m raring to go,” said Missanelli. “Joining the BetRivers team lets me share my love for Philadelphia sports in new ways and I really look forward to providing my insights to bettors at BetRivers here in my home state and in RSI markets throughout the country.”

Missanelli joins other former and current sports radio hosts, like Dan McNeil in Chicago, Mark Madden in Pittsburgh, and Mike Francesa in New York as podcasters for the sportsbook.

PointsBet is gearing up for the football season by adding new talent but also adding a state-of-the-art content studio.

“PointsBet views content as an essential component of the overall sports betting experience,” said PointsBet USA CEO Johnny Aitken. “Bettors are increasingly looking to sportsbooks to provide them with high-quality entertaining and informative content, and with the unveiling of the PointsBet Studio, we’re able to produce and curate content in house that is tailored to the PointsBet user.”

The studio will be located in Manhattan and will be “equipped with the latest innovative technology”.

PointsBet also announced the addition of The Straight Line with Ryan Leaf, a new podcast that will debut Thursday.

Larry Fitzgerald Joining Monday Night Countdown

The New York Post is reporting Larry Fitzgerald is joining ESPN as a member of the Monday Night Countdown crew.

Fitzgerald, a surefire future Pro Football Hall of Famer, will join the cast in advance of the Monday Night Football opener between the Seattle Seahawks and Denver Broncos.

He will join in a role similar to what former quarterback Alex Smith participated in last year, joining the show for somewhere between five to seven shows this fall. Smith recently signed an extension with ESPN to continue in the role. The Monday Night Countdown crew consists of Suzy Kolber, Booger McFarland, Steve Young, Robert Griffin III, Smith, and Adam Schefter.

The addition of Fitzgerald replaces the “wide receiver void” left by Randy Moss’ decision to focus solely on Sunday NFL Countdown on ESPN, rather than both pre-game shows as he previously did.

Fitzgerald will continue his work on SiriusXM’s Let’s Go! podcast with Tom Brady and Jim Gray.

According to The New York Post, ESPN has declined to comment.

Was Brian Kelly being fun and folksy or pissy and passive aggressive on Tuesday?

His weekly meeting with the media began with the LSU coach lecturing the media about punctuality. A video of the exchange went viral thanks to a retort from one reporter.

The debate about what was appropriate started before anyone knew who the reporter that said “maybe if you win I’ll be on time” was. T-Bob Hebert of 104.5 ESPN in Baton Rouge and The Volume wanted to get to the bottom of the mystery.

LSU beat writer Leah Vann, who covers the Bayou Bengals for The Advocate in Baton Rouge said it was her. She added that it was “not my finest hour” and said she already apologized to Brian Kelly.

The sports media was buzzing about the exchange with national personalities and local personalities from markets far away from Louisiana weighing in.

It will be interesting to see what happens as the week goes on. It sounds like Brian Kelly and Leah Vann are square, but does that mean we are done with the story? Surely someone will try to get Vann on the air to talk about it. It also wouldn’t be a surprise if the two were the subject of a story on either College GameDay or Big Noon Saturday this week.

Daily Wire CEO Praises Cumulus After Podcast Movement Decision

Daily Wire CEO and co-founder Jeremy Boreing issued a statement praising Cumulus Media after the broadcaster announced it would pull future sponsorship plans from the Podcast Movement Conference.

Last month, Podcast Movement raised eyebrows by publicly apologizing to attendees for the presence of conservative radio host and podcaster Ben Shapiro, who co-founded The Daily Wire with Boreing.

Cumulus, who handles sales for The Daily Wire, announced Tuesday they would no longer sponsor Podcast Movement saying “our tenet is that Every Voice Matters, and we support conferences and trade events where differing political viewpoints can be expressed and received with respect”.

Boreing issued a statement praising the move, saying “I’m glad to see our longtime partner Cumulus/Westwood One taking such a strong and public stand against Podcast Movement’s outright and abject bigotry.  Though Podcast Movement quietly removed their bigoted tweet thread over the weekend, they still have yet to retract and publicly apologize for their hateful comments about Ben Shapiro and The Daily Wire. In an illiberal moment such as the one we’re currently living in, if we don’t stand up to this kind of bigoted behavior it’s only going to get worse.  I certainly hope Cumulus’s strong response to Podcast Movement is the first of many others like it.”

Eric Bolling Rips Tucker Carlson for Taking Labor Day Off

Newsmax TV’s Eric Bolling aimed at his nighttime rival Monday Tucker Carlson criticizing him for taking the Labor Day holiday off. 

“Tucker took Labor Day off to celebrate the labor unions, their corrupt history, and their crime family origins,” said “The Balance” show host. 

Bolling said Carlson was probably playing some “stale, old interviews.” He added that Newsmax thought it was important to broadcast live on a holiday that many in the television industry generally take off. 

Bolling was fired by Fox News several years ago. In 2017, The Los Angeles Times reported that Bolling sent unsolicited photos of male genitalia to current and former female colleagues at the network.

Bolling served the network for ten years. However, his show “Fox News Specialists” was canceled amid the controversy. 

“If you’re a regular viewer of ‘The Balance,’ I’m glad you’re here,” he said. “If you’re a new viewer, a Tucker viewer maybe, you’re always welcomed here,” he said. 

Bolling called Tucker a “communist sympathizer” before launching into a monologue about the origins of the Labor Day movement.

Cumulus Media Cuts Ties with Podcast Movement

Cumulus Media has cut ties with the Podcast Movement after a very public debacle at an event last month involving Daily Wire editor-in-chief and syndicated radio personality Ben Shapiro. 

According to Inside Radio, Cumulus, who handles sales for the Daily Wire, released a statement reiterating support for Shapiro and asserting that it was “disassociating from the Podcast Movement.” 

“At Cumulus Media, our tenet is that Every Voice Matters, and we support conferences and trade events where differing political viewpoints can be expressed and received with respect,” the statement read. 

Last month, Shapiro made an appearance at the Podcast Movement’s annual event in Dallas, Texas. For some reason, his unannounced arrival prompted a social media apology from organizers. 

“Hi folks, we owe you an apology before sessions kick-off for the day. Yesterday afternoon, Ben Shapiro briefly visited the PM22 expo area near The Daily Wire booth. Though he was not registered or expected, we take full responsibility for the harm done by his presence,” said in a since-deleted tweet.

In the days following the event, conservative pundits reacted to the news. Barrett News Media reported that Tennessee radio host Dan Mandis called the situation “ridiculous,” stating that the Podcast Movement didn’t have the testicular fortitude to go up to Ben Shapiro themselves and say, ‘Hey, I don’t like you here. 

Cumulus’ statement Tuesday expressed displeasure in the overall handling of Shapiro’s appearance at the event. 

“As such, we were dismayed and disappointed by Podcast Movement’s handling of the reaction to our partner, top podcaster, and conservative talk leader Ben Shapiro’s mere presence at Podcast Movement,” the statement added.

Dan Bongino Rips Dana Bash for Soft Questions to Patty Murray

Syndicated radio host Dan Bongino blasted left-leaning media pundits for not pushing hard enough to get answers to questions about the government’s alleged mishandling of the COVID-19 pandemic. 

During his show Tuesday, Bongino criticized CNN’s Dana Bash for tossing perceived softball questions to Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash). In his monologue, Bongino said the mainstream media is in an “endless cycle of stupid.” 

“How is it that people don’t see this?” Bongino asked. “The media hides from people the consequences of liberal actions and doesn’t follow up.” 

Bongino said a perfect example of this was Bash’s interview with Sen. Murray. Bash asked Murray if she regretted any actions taken to close schools because of COVID-19. 

“This was a decision of local school officials and our scientific experts trying to get their hands around a pandemic that was killing millions of Americans,” Murray replied. “I am proud that when Democrats got control a year and a half ago, Democrats voted for the American Rescue Plan that helped our kids get back into school safely.” 

Bongino refuted Murray’s claims adding that “none of that actually happened.” Instead, he blamed Democrats for pushing for continued funding and cited unearthed emails between the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the teacher’s unions lobbying to keep kids locked out of school. 

“The reporter did nothing,” Bongino stated, referring to Bash’s lack of pushback against Murray’s assertion that her party did all they could to get kids back to school. 

“The media’s ability, using their massive microphones and megaphones out there, to mask the beatings, is almost magical. The reason people don’t realize liberals are the cause of all of our problems right now, even though Republicans may not be the solution, is because the media doesn’t tell them,” he added.  

Pat McAfee Joins ESPN’s College GameDay

Pat McAfee is the newest member of ESPN’s College GameDay.

Late Tuesday night, the New York Post reported that McAfee had agreed to become a full-time member of the veteran Saturday show. McAfee will be a part of the program this Saturday from Austin when Texas hosts No. 1 Alabama.

The timing works well for the show as GameDay and FOX’s Big Noon Kickoff seem to be heating up a battle for college pregame show dominance. Both programs will be in Austin for the game this weekend in which nearly 600 media requests are expected to be asked for, double the usual allotment requested for a typical Longhorns home game.

McAfee has appeared on ESPN’s College GameDay in the past.

“Pat is exceptionally talented and entertaining, and he was so well-received in his previous stint on College GameDay that we’ve wanted to reunite him with the show ever since,” said Jimmy Pitaro, Chairman, ESPN and Sports Content, The Walt Disney Company. “We’re thrilled Pat is returning to ESPN for college football and for even more opportunities in the years ahead.”

McAfee will continue to do his daily talk show, do color commentary on WWE’s Friday Night SmackDown for FOX, and do alternate college football broadcasts for Omaha Productions on ESPN2.

Doug Gottlieb Recants Casey Close Comments, Lawsuit Dropped

Earlier this summer, Fox Sports Radio host Doug Gottlieb said Casey Close, the former agent for MLB star Freddie Freeman while he negotiated a new contract last fall, didn’t alert Freeman to a final offer from the Atlanta Braves to ensure Freeman signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers for a bigger deal. On Wednesday, Gottlieb recanted those statements.

In a tweet, Gottlieb said “On June 29, I commented on alleged circumstances surrounding Freddie Freeman’s negotiations with the Atlanta Braves and his relationship with his former agent Casey Close. While I always strive to report accurate information, I prematurely reported on these events and simply got it wrong.

“Upon further vetting of my sources, a review of the lawsuit filed against me in this matter, and a direct conversation with Casey himself, I have learned that the conduct I alleged did not occur and that there is no credible basis for stating that it did. My ultimate investigation into this matter confirms that Case Close did, in fact, communicate all offers to Freddie Freeman and the sources I relied on were incorrect, in no uncertain terms. I appreciate the damage that misinformation like this can cause and have been in touch with Casey Close to apologize directly. I have also deleted my original tweet.”

Gottlieb’s original tweet said “Casey Close never told Freddie Freeman about the Braves final offer, that is why Freeman fired him. He found out in Atlanta this weekend. It isn’t that rare to have happen in MLB, but it happened – Close knew Freddie would have taken the ATL deal”.

On July 14th, ESPN MLB reporter Jeff Passan confirmed Close had filed a defamation lawsuit against Gottlieb.

“From the onset, we were clear that Mr. Gottlieb’s tweet was wholly inaccurate and that we would seek legal remedies to set the record straight,” Close said Wednesday. “He has retracted his statement in its entirety and acknowledged that he got the story wrong. We consider this matter closed.”
