Listeners React to Mike Missanelli Saying Goodbye

The Mike Missanelli Show was rocked with the news that Mike Missanelli would no longer be a part of it after Tuesday’s program. Missanelli is an icon in Philadelphia sports radio so the news traveled quickly and stunned a lot of 97.5 the Fanatic listeners.

The news was made by Missanelli himself on the show. Usually the show ends with a segment for listeners to call in and voice their opinions to hopefully get heard on the show. It was no surprise that this edition of “Sound Off” was more focused on the departure of Philadelphia sports radio goliath.

Missanelli started by joking that this would be the last time he gives the number for future sound offs. Then the love poured in, caller, after caller, after caller.

“Hey Mike, longtime listener man. I’m so disappointed to hear that you’ll be leaving. Continued success with everything you do in your future venture. You’ll definitely be missed. You are a legend.”

“I’m just here to say Mike, I barely call in to the show but I listen to you every day. I love you man. You really are gonna be missed. It’s a sad day. I don’t really know what to say. The city of Philadelphia loves you and we can’t wait to see you again.”

That’s when Missanelli, who thanked every caller immediately after, mentioned it was getting to him again. “Thanks brother, I appreciate it. I thought I was over it, the crying part.”

“Oh man, I’m heartbroken man. I can’t even process this right now. Like you gone? Mike I was listening to you when I was in jail fifteen years ago. Got out, got my life together, been listening to you ever since. I’m going to miss you buddy.”

“Mike, you will be missed my friend. I really enjoyed your show. I will miss you dearly. You are on the Mount Rushmore of Philly sports talk. I love ya, my brother.”

“I followed you from West Philly to Savannah to Florida now I’m in Atlanta. Your guys show during the Pandemic was great to help me get thru. I’ve been working at nursing homes since 2010. I hope to follow you wherever you go, man. You guys helped me get thru that and I want to thank you a lot. I hope to be hearing from you soon.”

“I live far away. I listen to you guys every day. I spend sometimes four or five hours in my car a day. I’m either catching you live or listening to you later on in the podcast. I wanted to say you are what keeps me in touch with Philadelphia. You’re the best bud.”

Finally, Missanelli had to call it quits. “I, uh, let’s shut it down.”

“Listen, I don’t know what else to say,” Missanelli began his final moments on the air. “I appreciate the love today. It broke me down a little bit. This has been a great ride for me and it’s because of you guys out there and everybody I’ve worked with made it a lot easier for everybody to present a really good show for people. So, thank you so much and I don’t know where I’ll see you next but I hope I do see ya. See ya later.”
