Seven days ago, Richard Sherman dropped the news that he was hired to be a part of Amazon Prime Video’s latest football venture. He’s now got another confirmed teammate with the hiring of newly retired Ryan Fitzpatrick.
Fitpatrick will be a pregame analyst alongside Sherman and previously announced Tony Gonzalez. That makes a three-man analyst team for the pregame, halftime and postgame analysis, at least that’s been announced thus far.
The veteran spent seventeen seasons in the NFL before a hip injury cost him the entirety of last season. Now, he’s a broadcaster. He confirmed the news in an interview with The Post. He said that after the injuries and the fact he played for nine teams, moving his family each time, the end his playing days was near.
“That kind of opened my eyes to life after football,” Fitzpatrick said. “And here we are.”
“Amazon jumped out at me,” Fitzpatrick said. “In terms of it is something that’s fresh and new. It just made a lot of sense of what I was trying to get into.”
Fitzpatrick said he also liked the idea that Amazon’s game will be on Thursday. That will allow him to attend his kids’ football games and soccer tournaments. He has seven children ranging from ages 3-15.
“And, also, for me to be able to sit down with my kids and watch some of these games on Sunday,” Fitzpatrick said. “It is something I haven’t had a whole lot of time to do these last 17 years.”
The desk setup for Thursday Night Football still is without an anchor/host. It has been reported that Fox’s Charissa Thompson is negotiating with Amazon for the position.
