In an offseason loaded with commentator and broadcaster movement, one in particular stands firm. Erin Andrews has chosen to stay with FOX and will remain on the sideline with the network’s top game choice of the week. She will team with Kevin Burkhardt and Greg Olsen.
Beyond this year is anyone’s guess because Tom Brady lurks in the broadcasting mist. He inked a massive deal earlier this year to join FOX when his playing days were over. But they aren’t and according to Erin Andrews, he is still very much in that mindset.
Andrews joined Jimmy Traina on the Sports Illustrated Media Podcast and brought up her reaction to the Brady hiring news, but also Tom Brady’s reaction when she called to congratulate him.
“He (Brady) didn’t pick up. What are you working out or something? We left a voicemail. Then I reached out to him on my own and just said I am so excited. It’s been a dream to cover you, now it’s going to be a dream to work with you. Whenever in the hell that’s going to be.”
Andrews, as alluded, didn’t get immediate feedback from her eventual colleague and she understands the mindset.
“Tom has been very, very, Tom-ish and PC,” Andrews recalls. “He’s just like ‘I’m excited but not now’. And I appreciate that from him.”
“He’s like, ‘I can’t worry about that right now,’ and he’s not… He’s got his season to worry about, we got our season to worry about. We got a Super Bowl this year, we got an entirely new crew and I’m excited about it.”
