Rachel Maddow: Donald Trump Is Having Delightful Jan. 6 Investigation

MSNBC host Rachel Maddow shared documents from the Department of Justice that guide prosecutors seeking to investigate presidential candidates and their staffers.

The video posted via Mediate shows Maddow holding the document, reportedly signed by Attorney General Merrick Garland. Maddow emphasizes that the guidance from Garland is an extension of a previous policy enacted by Donald Trump’s former Attorney General Bill Barr.

“Well, former President Donald Trump has had the delightful experience of the Jan. 6 investigation essentially rolling out a real-time, primetime criminal referral of him to the justice department,” she said.

Maddow seemed to be raising the question of whether Barr protected Trump following the events of Jan. 6.

“That’s kind of a surprise,” Maddow later said of Garland extending the policy. “That news was established by Bill Barr – when he was working for Donald Trump.”

A committee is currently investigating the details of Jan. 6 to see what role, if any, the former president may have played.
