Chuck Custer Inducted Into NYSBA Hall of Fame

The Class of 2022’s New York State Broadcasters Association Hall of Fame will include Chuck Custer, a radio personality in Albany, New York.

Custer worked at WGY-AM/FM for over 36 years in the Empire State’s capitol. According to the NYSBA, ” “He was the co-host of the top-rated morning show with Kelly Lynch beginning in 2011. Prior to that, he served as morning news anchor and the on-air partner for 25 years with NYSBA Hall of Famer Don Weeks.”

Custer also was a news director and program at WGY, whose first broadcast was 100 years ago in 1922.

Also in his career, Custer served once as president of the New York State Associated Press Broadcasters Association. During his time as news director, WGY racked up more than 35 journalism awards. That tally includes four national Edward R. Murrow Awards from the RTDNA. Custer worked with Albany legend Don Weeks until the latter’s retirement in 2010 and was paired in morning drive with Kelly Lynch until his own retirement.

Custer retired in 2020. WGY-AM is now owned by iHeartMedia.
