Syndicated radio host Dan Bongino likes the idea of Twitter charging verified users for blue checkmarks.
Bongino lauded the verified system Monday which he said has allowed him to get distribution on the platform that a lot of people can’t get.
“It’s easier to find me with the blue checkmark because you would have a thousand fake Dan Bongino accounts up there. You should be able to get that too. I am a believer in real, genuine equality of opportunity,” he said.
According to The Verge, Musk is planning to charge $19.99 for the new Twitter Blue subscription.
“You should be able to verify yourself too,” added Bongino. “Twenty dollars a month, submit your driver’s license or however the verification process is going to work, why don’t you get the same distribution access?”
Bongino said that he’s heard from both sides about Twitter’s plan to charge for its verification system.
“It’s become just a vanity tool, the blue checkmark for people who pretend that they are more important than you” Bongino said. “I’m not. I know I have a microphone, but you have a job too. Truck drivers, carpenters if you want to get verified, I would love to hear your opinion on stuff too.”
“We don’t need a bunch of fake news journalists getting all the distribution on the platform,” he added.
