There was a reported flirtation between Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay and Amazon Prime Video’s Thursday Night Football booth earlier this year. FOX Sports reporter and NFL Network host Peter Schrager believes, eventually, McVay will end up on TV.
“I think he’ll do it eventually,” Schrager said on The Marchand and Ourand Sports Media Podcast. “We did a podcast together. We co-hosted it last summer called Flying Coach and it was for Bill Simmons and The Ringer. We did 10 episodes, and it was two hours each, and we would interview other coaches. Sean loved it. Loved it. He could be himself. It wasn’t him at a post game press conference. He really got a kick out of it.”
Schrager told a story of a conversation he had with McVay that led him to believe McVay somewhat enjoyed the speculation about his future.
“I’ll never forget texting him the photo of The New York Post back page of your article,” Schrager told Marchand. “It was like the pinnacle of sports media. All these things were happening. Buck was leaving, and Aikman was leaving, and McVay was being talked about, and Herbstreit. And Al Michaels. And I sent him the picture on the back of The New York Post and he just gave the smiley face emoji. This is so absurd, that in New York City, Sean McVay’s sports media future is on the cover of The New York Post.”
