Longtime Philadelphia sports radio stalwart Angelo Cataldi is coming up on the end of his illustrious career at 94WIP, but don’t expect Eagles radio play-by-play announcer Merrill Reese to join him anytime soon.
The 80-year-old Reese joined Cataldi Tuesday to discuss the Eagles as the NFL playoffs begin. Cataldi discussed a recent Q&A Reese did with Philadelphia Magazine, before eventually asking the longtime voice of the franchise if he ever considered stepping aside.
“People like me are quitters,” Cataldi joked. “Merrill, are you ever retiring?”
“Never, never, never,” Reese responded. “I keep saying they have to remove me with a crane. I love doing this so much, Angelo. I truly, truly do. I prepare as hard as I maybe ever have, and I feel great. When I arrive at that stadium, I’m a nervous wreck until we go on the air because it’s so important to me. I love it. There’s nothing more important in the world to me.”
Reese has served as the radio voice of the Eagles since 1977.
