The college football season is over The addition of Pat McAfee to College GameDay stands out as the sport’s biggest off-the-field story from 2022. He said that he heard plenty this year from people that did not like the move, and he thinks his performance in the National Championship Game made them all very happy.
McAfee was the subject of complaints on social media after he used sexual innuendo to express his gratitude for the past year.
“Everything we say into a microphone has zero ill intentions,” he said on his show on Tuesday.
Pat McAfee explained that he saw an online article saying he was “blasted” for his performance and word choice at the national championship game. He admits that Georgia’s total domination of TCU made the game boring and he may have gone a little overboard to entertain himself.
“I’m not normally a sexual innuendo joke guy. That’s not normally my thing,” he said. “Eleven hours on TV one day, 65-7, I maybe got a little loose. I said ‘college football, thank you for allowing me to penetrate you and be inside you all year,’ which, factual statement, but certainly sounded a little bit like deep-dongin’ somebody.”
McAfee says his performance in the final game of the season was kind of perfect. It gave everyone a bit of what they wanted from him.
“I think that was a great way to wrap up the college football season, you know? The people inside the college football world that did not appreciate my presence, that was one last trip around on the tractor to really bury me and keep it going.”
