While Rupert Murdoch continues to explore remerging his Fox Corp and News Corp into one entity, he reportedly has a leader in mind should he accomplish his wishes.
Lachlan Cartwright of The Daily Beast reports Murdoch wants Rebekah Brooks — the CEO of his company’s News division in the United Kingdom — to run his media conglomerate.
Brooks spent time atop The Sun tabloid before taking over News International before resigning after the News of the World phone-hacking scandal plagued the organization in 2011. That scandal ultimately led to the split of the two companies Murdoch would like to reunify.
Cartwright claims Murdoch, 91, would like to reunite his companies as a “swan song”, saying it’s one more “big deal” before “he departs to the big newsroom in the sky”.
Brooks is a pivotal figure in the Murdoch empire. Many believe Sunday Times editor Emma Tucker being elevated to Editor in Chief of The Wall Street Journal was at Brooks’ behest.
