Jerry Jones is a regular guest on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas. So is his son Stephen, who serves as the Dallas Cowboys’ Executive Vice President. Usually, both men make multiple appearances per week on the station, but that is not the case after the Dallas Cowboys were eliminated from the NFL Playoffs and Stephen A. Smith doesn’t blame the family at all for that decision.
“Jerry Jones cancelled that interview because Jerry Jones has decisions to make,” Smith said Tuesday on First Take.
Smith is among the many that speculated that despite making it to the postseason, head coach Mike McCarthy’s job was far from safe. Jones has said that is not the case, but after the team’s disappointing finish in San Francisco, Stephen A. Smith isn’t buying it. He isn’t so sure that the decisions are only about McCarthy either.
“There may be no changes, but he’s thinking about it,” Smith told Molly Qerim, Keyshawn Johnson and Marcus Spears. “That’s why he cancelled that interview, number one. Plus, he’s scared of what he’s gonna say because he knows how he feels.”
Shan Shariff was the one to tell listeners that Jerry Jones had cancelled his appearances this week.
On Tuesday morning, Shariff’s morning show partner Bobby Belt reminded him that Jones has cancelled in the past when big news is coming.
“Stephen cancelling doesn’t pique my interest as much as Jerry does, because it’s like ‘Oh, what secret doesn’t he trust himself not to tell.’”
That lends some credibility to the theory Stephen A. Smith floated on First Take.
