KYW afternoon anchor Jay Scott Smith has exited in a cost-cutting move from the Audacy-owned station.
Smith joined KYW as a part-time anchor in 2019 before ascending to afternoon anchor in 2020.
“I loved what I did there. I loved working with all of the guys in that room,” he told The Philadelphia Inquirer. “I hate that it ended this way, and I wish I had gotten the chance to formally say goodbye.”
The 43-year-old added his contract was slated to expire in November and had already contemplated moving in a different direction. He also said he would be interested in remaining in radio or television in the city.
“If anyone is in need of this voice of mine, I would be happy to step in,” said Smith. “I’ve got plenty more to say.”
Smith spent three years at Philadelphia public radio station WHYY as a reporter and anchor before joining KYW. He moved to Philadelphia after spending time at stations in Lansing and Flint, Michigan. The Michigan native also worked at The Detroit News and MLive.com.
