On Thursday, Cumulus Media announced that 760 WJR and the USFL’s Michigan Panthers agreed to an official broadcast partnership. In a release obtained by Barrett News Media, the station said the partnership will be branded as “Michigan Panthers Football on 760 WJR” and will involve live coverage of the team’s home games at Ford Field and its road games through on-air and streaming platforms.
Chris Renwick, an accomplished broadcaster with five Michigan Association of Broadcasters awards, will be the team’s play-by-play announcer. Renwick is the Senior News Analyst and hosts “SportsWrap” on 760 WJR. He began his career as an anchor and reporter in the 760 WJR newsroom before eventually becoming the executive producer for “The Frank Beckmann Show.”
Starting in 2015, Chris assumed the position of play-by-play commentator for the Siena Heights Saints University football team. In 2019, he also fulfilled play-by-play responsibilities for the Quick Lane Bowl.
In addition, 760 WJR will provide exclusive access to the team’s behind-the-scenes operations, such as interviews with coaches and players. Fans will have various opportunities to win complimentary tickets and distinctive fan experiences.
“I’m thrilled to be able to help usher in a brand-new era of Panthers football. And here’s the good news: whether you were around when the Panthers won the USFL Championship back in ’83, or you’re a new fan, there’s plenty of room on the Panthers bandwagon! I can’t wait to take everyone on the ride with us.”
“Our Director of Sales, Jeff Marcero, worked tirelessly on this deal, and the result is the perfect partnership between two legacies Michigan brands,” said Mike Wheeler, Program Director, 760 WJR. “We can’t wait for the season to start!”
