Hal Jay Returns to WBAP After Heart Transplant

Hal Jay, the host of the “WBAP’s Morning News,” is set to return to the Dallas airwaves on Monday, April 3rd, after a nearly two-month absence following a successful heart transplant.

Hal Jay was missing from the “WBAP Morning News” lineup after the holiday season. On January 16th, he explained to his audience that he had experienced two ventricular tachycardia events within a week. Medical professionals at Baylor Scott & White Hospital had informed him that his heart was irreparable.

After being added to a transplant list, doctors said the estimated waiting period for a new heart would be 2 to 6 months. However, Jay didn’t have to wait that long. On February 3rd, a heart had become available, and he would undergo surgery that night.

Jay underwent the transplant surgery the following day, and after several hours of recovery, he returned to his hospital room. Remarkably, just nine days after the surgery, Hal was discharged from the hospital and could drive back home to Fort Worth with his wife, Ann.

WBAP had been consistently airing promos with Hal Jay’s voice, and on March 29th, listeners finally received the news they had eagerly awaited. Hal made a triumphant announcement declaring his return to the airwaves with the exciting proclamation, “I’m coming back!”

Hal Jay has been a vital member of the WBAP team since 1981 and is currently in his 42nd year with the station.
