Trial Date Set for Newsmax vs Dominion Defamation Suit

A trial date has officially been scheduled for a defamation lawsuit brought forth by Dominion Voting Systems against Newsmax.

The case will commence on Monday, September 30th of next year after the two parties agreed to the date. Newsmax had reportedly wished for the trial to start after the 2024 presidential election scheduled for next November.

Delaware Superior Court Judge Eric Davis will preside over the case. Davis is the same judge who adjudicated the proceedings between Dominion Voting Systems and Fox News. That case was settled after the cable news network agreed to pay the election machine company $787.5 million moments before the trial began.

Dominion has accused Newsmax — like it did Fox News — of knowingly broadcasting false statements centered on the company’s involvement in the 2020 presidential election. Unfounded claims have been shared that Dominion machines purposely changed ballots to benefit President Joe Biden during the election.

Newsmax has defended its coverage of the 2020 presidential election and has shared it will “vigorously” defend itself from litigation by the election machine company.

“Newsmax believes that it acted well within the First Amendment to provide Americans with facts and opinions that helped them make an informed opinion about the 2020 election results,” company CEO Chris Ruddy said.
