Chris Edwards Out as Voice of East Carolina Due to Resume Inconsistencies

Just over a week after landing what he called his dream job, Chris Edwards is out as the voice of the East Carolina Pirates.

Edwards made the decision after the discovery of “academic inconsistencies on his resume”. He claimed to be a graduate of ECU, but has since clarified that while he attended the school, he never actually graduated.

“I want to apologize to PlayFly and general manager Clay Walker, ECU Director of Athletics Jon Gilbert and his staff and the search committee for any damage I have caused to a university I love dearly,” Edwards said in a statement posted on social media. “PlayFly and I have decided the best decision is for us to part ways effective immediately. I hope Pirate Nation and all parties involved will accept my sincere apologies as we move forward.”

Even if he is lacking a degree, Edwards had an impressive resume coming into the job. He had been a part of the Blue Devil Sports Network for a decade, calling Duke baseball and women’s basketball among other sports. He also served as the broadcast director of the Coastal Plain League overseeing fourteen teams’ broadcasts.

The job came open in February when East Carolina was forced to find a replacement for Jeff Charles following his death. He had been the voice of the Pirates for 35 years.
