J.J. Watt: I Won’t Do Hot Takes on CBS

Three-time Defensive Player of the Year JJ Watt is going to be making his debut on the TV side this season working as a studio analyst for CBS’s NFL coverage. Fans can expect no frills or over the top antics from Watt.

Talking to Dan Patrick on Tuesday, JJ said he’s not going to delve into hot takes.

“I’m not shy in saying that I’m not gonna be the crazy, critical guy doing hot takes left and right,” he said. “Because I’ve been on the other side of that, and I know what it’s like when the person in the booth or the person analyzing it doesn’t know your exact job on that play and doesn’t know exactly what your responsibility was.”

“I am gonna offer a bunch of insights and things that I have learned over the year that I don’t think the general public hears a ton about,” Watt added.

Things like snap counts, pre-snap checks and jargon like “Omaha” used at the line of scrimmage are things JJ feels like he can shine a light on.

“I’m not gonna give away their secrets, but I do think the fans wonder what that means,” he said.

Dan didn’t try to coach up Watt on what he could or couldn’t do in his role at CBS, but he did offer some cheeky advice on how JJ should approach his CBS wardrobe.

“I wouldn’t go too tight, the suit, for CBS,” Patrick joked. “You want to call attention to your words, not your physique. Your arms.”

“You don’t have to be outlandish. You just have to be professional,” he added. “That’s what you want to be. You want to be professional, like me.”
