Texas Rangers radio voice Eric Nadel returned to the broadcast booth after missing the majority of the season to focus on his mental health.
Nadel broadcast his first game of the 2023 season Friday as the Rangers took on the Miami Marlins.
“I am delighted to be back on the air tonight and am eternally grateful to the Rangers’ ownership and management for their patience, understanding, and generosity,” Nadel said Friday. “A huge thank-you to my broadcast partners for making it possible for me to take the time I needed. And my heart goes out to all the Rangers fans for their love, support, and prayers.”
Nadel – who has been the team’s primary radio play-by-play since 1995 – revealed that he was receiving treatment for anxiety, insomnia, and depression in late March.
During his absence, Matt Hicks – who has been Nadel’s partner in the booth since 2012 – handled play-by-play duties while pre and postgame host Jared Sandler stepped into join Hicks. Both parties returned to their previous duties upon Nadel’s return Friday.
Eric Nadel has been with the Texas Rangers since 1979 and was the 2014 recipient of the Ford C. Frick Award for Excellence in Broadcasting from the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum.
