CNN Unveils New Weekday Lineup

CNN has unveiled a new weekday lineup that includes brand-new programs for the cable news channel.

Phil Mattingly has officially been named the co-host of CNN This Morning. Mattingly has been the main fill-in anchor since Kaitlan Collins departed the morning show for her primetime program. Original co-anchor Poppy Harlow will remain alongside Mattingly.

Additionally, Pamela Brown will host a newly launched early afternoon show The Bulletin with Pamela Brown. The show will begin at 3:00 PM ET and replace an hour of CNN News Central as a lead-in to The Lead with Jake Tapper.

Abby Phillip has been named the new anchor of the 10:00 PM ET window, which is currently filled with CNN Primetime. Phillip joined CNN in 2017 after previously working at The Washington Post and ABC News.

It was also announced that Laura Coates will anchor a new Washington D.C.-based late-night show, beginning at 11:00 PM ET. Coates was originally tabbed to anchor a late news program while the network was under the direction of Chris Licht, who ultimately scrapped those plans. After the reversal, Coates was named the network’s chief legal analyst.

“One of CNN’s key differentiators is our deep roster of experienced journalists, reporters and storytellers,” said CNN’s four-person leadership team, made up of Amy Entelis, David Leavy, Virginia Moseley and Eric Sherling, in a statement. “Many joined CNN early in their careers and have grown with the network throughout the years.”

CNN also announced new plans for its weekend programming. On Saturday mornings, Victor Blackwell will anchor a new show beginning at 8:00 AM ET. Michael Smerconish will remain in the 9:00 AM ET timeslot, while Chris Wallace and Christiane Amanpour will join at 10:00 AM and 11:00 AM ET respectively.

Also, Manu Raju will now helm the weekend edition of Inside Politics for the network.

“By expanding the range and depth of our programming lineup across multiple dayparts, we are strengthening our reporting excellence throughout the schedule, elevating our ability to tell great stories across platforms, and doubling down on CNN’s position as the most trusted name in news,” the network’s leadership team concluded.
