Fox News host Will Cain has been reporting on the devastating wildfires in Maui this week, and in a series of posts to X claims that he faced pushback while trying to report on the situation.
“We believe we are the only national media in West Maui. I haven’t see (sic) any other crews. And they tried to censor us and shut us down,” said Cain. “‘West Maui is a media free zone.’ We only got through the checkpoints because I’m a property owner in West Maui. They have this place on info lockdown from Waihee to Maalaea.”
Cain shared during a report on Fox Business Network that he was broadcasting due to a Starlink satellite because cell phone service was virtually non-existent on the island after wildfires killed more than 100 people.
Additionally, he claimed a Maui mayor tried to restrict his access to reporting from a recovery center for residents.
A GoFundMe pushed by Cain on air has now garnered more than $1 million for residents affected by the natural disaster.
