Mark Simone: Hugh Hewitt ‘Acts Like a Total Jerk in Debates’

Salem Radio Network host Hugh Hewitt is scheduled to moderate the upcoming 2024 Republican Presidential Primary debate alongside NBC News anchors Lester Holt and Kristen Welker next week. That was not music to the ears of Mark Simone.

During The Mark Simone Show Wednesday, the 710 WOR host shared his opinions on the NBC News hosts and his perception that they are some of the most biased journalists on television.

“Because it’s NBC, one of the moderators will be Lester Holt. He’s one of the most biased, slanted hosts in all of television. Did you watch NBC Nightly News last night? Made it look like Israel is the most barbaric, brutal country in the world,” Simone said. “It’s the most slanted, often anti-Semitic looking newscasts. Kristen Welker, the new Meet the Press moderator, is extremely slanted and biased, but she’s not Chuck Todd, so that works in her favor.”

Mark Simone then turned his attention and ire toward Hewitt and his performance in past debates.

“Also, Hugh Hewitt, he’s the Salem guy. The problem with him is he acts like a total jerk in debates. Remember, he’s the one in 2016 that came up with these really stupid, annoying, ‘gotcha’ questions for Donald Trump. You’re supposed to ask things people are interested in,” continued Simone. “He’s a guy — he’s this real egghead with glasses, who looks for this obscure stuff nobody else will know that is supposed to embarrass.”

The 710 WOR host then remembered Hewitt’s question that stumped Trump in 2016, and took issue with the purpose of the question.

“Trump didn’t quite understand the question…this is one of those things that some real egghead on Jeopardy knows. He does those stupid ‘gotcha’ questions, and I’ll bet he does that…at the NBC debate,” Simone said, before concluding “I don’t know who’s really going to watch this.”

NBC News is hosting the debate in conjunction with Salem Radio Network. The event will be held in Miami and will be broadcast on Wednesday, November 8th at 8 PM ET.
