Marcus Spears: Playing for Dallas Cowboys a Fast Track to Media Job

Playing for the Dallas Cowboys is one of the most unique experiences in the eyes of Marcus Spears.

Spears played eight seasons for Dallas, and in an appearance with Dan Patrick on Thursday, he said there’s nothing that really compares to living and working in Dallas as a member of the Cowboys.

“I bet it’s not as bad, DP, as a Green Bay or a Buffalo because of the vicinity, but there’s a lore to being a Cowboy, man,” Spears said. “Like, I still eat free around here. I still get people calling me to do stuff. I still make money off the fact that I played for the Cowboys.”

Spears, who is an NFL analyst for ESPN, elaborated further saying that his ties to the Cowboys definitely helped him land his gig at the worldwide leader.

“Troy Aikman on Monday Night Football? That’s got something to do with the Dallas Cowboys. I’m on ESPN. That’s got something to do with playing for the Dallas Cowboys,” he said. “The national presence that you have when you play for the Cowboys as well is I think second to none. I mean, we’re all over the media. That ain’t no coincidence, DP, OK?”
