After much speculation, Audacy officially filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy earlier this week, and the news was music to the ears of Howie Carr.
During his Morning Minute, Carr failed to hide his excitement at the downfall of his former employer.
“As an escaped hostage of the world’s worst radio company, my prayers have finally been answered,” said Carr, noting that he called the company’s previous branding — Entercom — “EnterCON” for many years.
“CEO David Field says that at EnterCON (sic), it will be ‘business as usual’. Now that’s a big problem considering how ‘business as usual’ has worked out for them,” Carr continued. “I’ve been sounding the alarm on their incompetence for years.”
Carr concluded by questioning how long Field would remain in his role.
“How long until Field announces he’s departing to pursue exciting new opportunities? Perhaps in the hospitality industry? 90 days? It would take a heart of stone not to laugh. My heart feels like an alligator.”
Howie Carr exited then-Entercom in 2014 after his contract with WRKO 680 ended. He had previously attempted to leave the company in 2007, but a judge ruled his contract with the company allowed them to match any offer given to the radio host.
Carr spent the remaining seven years trashing the company publicly on his show, before eventually returning to the station in 2015. He continued to mock the company’s operations after it relinquished control of the station during its merger with CBS Radio, which ultimately saw WRKO being owned by iHeartMedia.
