Reach Over Revenue for Mark Cuban and the Dallas Mavericks

Dallas Mavericks minority owner Mark Cuban was a guest this week on The Ben and Skin Show on 97.1 The Freak in Dallas.

He talked about his recent sale of a majority stake of the franchise to casino mogul Miriam Adelson and her family. Cuban has retained shares of the team and control of basketball operations as part of the deal. While he will no longer be the governor of the team, he plans to still be very much involved.

The conversation then turned to team media and Cuban let Dallas Mavericks fans know that 10 games this season are going to be shown on over-the-air television. The schedule has not yet been determined, but Cuban did say the games would be towards the end of the season.

Cuban then addressed the future of the team’s streaming rights and had said, “It wont be Bally unless something crazy happens, like Amazon buys them or something like that. At which point it would be on Prime.”

Oddly enough, less than 24 hours later it was announced Amazon is doing a deal with Diamond Sports Group, parent company of Bally Sports.

As they continued on the topic, Cuban did point out the goals of his team may be different than others when it comes to streaming in the future. “What we do probably won’t be the same as what other teams have done,” he said. “We will probably focus on getting the greatest reach as opposed to trying to maximize revenue.”
