It was announced Wednesday that former The Daily Show host Jon Stewart would return to the Comedy Central program to host the Monday edition each week through the 2024 Presidential Election.
Stewart helmed the program for 16 years before stepping away in 2015. He was replaced by Trevor Noah, who departed the show last year.
Since departing the show, Stewart launched a program with AppleTV — The Problem with Jon Stewart — which he eventually exited due to “creative differences” with the streaming platform and its executives over the content of the show.
On a Tuesday through Thursday basis, the program will be anchored by a rotating cast of correspondents from the show.
Stewart made the announcement on social media, joking that he was announcing his move to the “transfer portal”, similar to college football players.
In response, several news media figures opined about Stewart’s high-profile return to television. Sentiments ranged from excitement to disappointment, to mocking his need for attention and questioning the timing of the move.
