What has long been expected came to fruition Friday morning: Candace Owens and The Daily Wire have parted ways.
In a post to X, CEO Jeremy Boreing announced the move, simply stating the two sides “have ended their relationship.”
Owens and co-founder Ben Shapiro have been at odds over her encapsulation of the Israel-Hamas conflict following the October 7th terrorist attacks in the country.
After Shapiro called Owens “disgraceful” for her stances on the conflict, she shared a cryptic social media post that some interpreted to be anti-Semitic, accusing Ben Shapiro of serving money before God. He subsequently encouraged Candace Owens to quit the digital company.
Later, she joined Tucker Carlson for a sit-down interview where she was critical of Shapiro, claiming she would be “embarrassed” to act the way he did in a viral video slamming his colleague. She subsequently shared other anti-Semitic comments that a “small ring” of “sinister” Jews controlled Hollywood and the nation’s capital. She also came under fire recently for liking a post on X that claimed Jews drink the blood of Christians as part of a religious exercise.
When the back-and-forth went viral, Boreing remained adamant that despite the disagreement between Shapiro and Candace Owens, she would continue to have a place at the conservative digital outlet.
“Candace is paid to give her opinion, not mine or Ben’s. Unless those opinions run afoul of the law or she violates the terms of her contract in some way, her job is secure and she is welcome at Daily Wire,” Boreing said last year.
The 34-year-old Owens — who joined The Daily Wire in 2021 for her self-titled podcast — claimed she was “finally free” in a social media post announcing the move.
