Ben Shapiro is still dealing with the fallout from Candace Owens and The Daily Wire parting ways. SiriusXM host Megyn Kelly joked with him that she learned her lesson from the situation.
After a public back-and-forth about each other’s stances on the Israel-Hamas conflict, Shapiro openly advocated for Owens to leave the digital outlet he co-founded if he didn’t appreciate the comments he made about her.
Ultimately, The Daily Wire and Owens parted ways last month, with the conservative commentator stating she was “finally free.” After those comments, Shapiro argued that the company didn’t have a free speech issue because it is a publisher, not a platform. He claimed — for instance — the outlet wouldn’t hire a staunchly pro-abortion host.
Ben Shapiro appeared on The Megyn Kelly Show, where he was pressed by the former cable news host about the topic.
He gave a similar answer about the publisher versus platform debate and pointed to a policy disagreement he has with fellow Daily Wire host, Matt Walsh.
“He basically believes the United States has no real interest in the Middle East and thus should not be providing material supporting to anyone, including the state of Israel. Matt, obviously, is well within the sort of group of hosts that we have here at the Daily Wire. So clearly whatever is going on is not about Israel specifically,” Shapiro said.
That led Kelly to chuckle and admit she’s learned from the ordeal.
“This is why I don’t go into business with anyone else, Ben,” she said. “This is why I like to just be on my own little island here.”
