Darren Smith Out at San Diego Sports 760

Longtime San Diego sports talk host Darren Smith is no longer with iHeartMedia station San Diego Sports 760. Information about his show with longtime sidekick and producer Marty Caswell, which had been airing from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. ET, is no longer available on the station website and the move was confirmed on the air by the afternoon drive team of Jon Schaeffer and Jim Russell.

“This is a factual statement so I’m going to say it on the air, we’re not going to go deep on this,” said Schaeffer. “Darren Smith is no longer employed by iHeart San Diego. Got the email that Darren’s no longer employed by iHeart San Diego. I’m not going to avoid our listeners; we have people on social media asking us. We owe it to our listeners. Do I have particulars? Absolutely not. Unfortunately, we don’t.

“You and I have both spoken with Darren,” he said. “I mean we have had the pleasure, I’ve worked with Darren for five years, you’ve known him for much longer than that. You produced his show. He’s been great to us. He’s been great to the station. This has nothing to do with the station nor anyone individually.

“There are contracts in radio and things present themselves and I don’t know the particulars of it. If it was mutual, how it all works, but I do know because we’ve gotten the email about it that Darren unfortunately is no longer employed by iHeart San Diego.”

Russell then let the listeners know how Smith is doing and when they might hear from him again.

“We’ve talked to Darren by the way, Darren’s doing fine,” he said. “Darren’s great, he’s ok. I’m sure you’ll hear from Darren soon…I can’t say enough good things about Darren.”

Schaeffer then reminded the listeners that if they like certain programming, it is very helpful to support it by listening, spreading the word and supporting the sponsors.
