Elroy Smith To Host WILD-AM/Boston Reunion

Cox Media Director Of Urban Content Elroy Smith is set to return to his old home to host the Boston Radio Reunion on July 26th at Boston’s Bruce C. Bolling Municipal Building.

In the 1980s, WILD-AM in Boston was the hot spot for New England’s R&B scene, solidifying that reputation by breaking bands like New Edition.

“It became a part of the culture of African Americans in Boston,” Smith told the Bay State Banner.

The evening will include an award ceremony with a special appearance by Bernadine Foster Nash, the widow of WILD’s station founder, Kendall Nash.

“As much as the station was on from sunrise to sunset, one would have thought it was a 24-hour operation because it was so powerful,” said Smith, who programmed WILD from 1983 to 1988.

Awardees include JoJo “Cookin’ Kincaid, formerly of WXKS (KISS 108), Stephen Hill of WILD and BET, New Edition member Ralph Tresvant, and Kandi Eastman, who started her career at WILD.
