Larry Elder has spent time away from radio in recent years to focus on his political career. Now, he’s preparing to make his return to the medium with Salem Media Group.
While appearing on 77 WABC at the Republican National Convention with Sid and Friends in the Morning, Elder was asked about what his future holds after failed bids for the California governor’s seat and the Republican presidential nomination. He said his future likely includes a return to radio with his former company.
“There’s a good chance — breaking news on your show — that I’ll go back to radio,” Elder revealed. “I’ve been off for almost two years. I was with Salem for a long time. Salem and I are in discussions, and there’s a good chance that I may go back to radio sooner than later.”
Larry Elder — who has been a finalist for the Radio Hall of Fame the past two years — shared that he would be a national host for the Salem Radio Network, rather than a local host at one of the many locally owned-and-operated stations the company holds in major markets.
The 72-year-old Elder was a conservative radio mainstay for decades after starting his evening talk show at KABC in 1994. He worked at the station until 2008 before returning again in September 2012. In 2014, he was fired by the company before joining Salem Radio Network in 2015. He hosted that program until 2022 despite running for Governor of California in 2021.
It is unclear where Elder would fit into the Salem Radio Network lineup. The network currently features The Hugh Hewitt Show (6-9 AM ET), The Mike Gallagher Show (9 AM-Noon), The Dennis Prager Show, The Eric Metaxas Show, and The Charlie Kirk Show in middays, America First with Sebastian Gorka (3-6 PM ET), and The Officer Tatum Show (6-9 PM ET). During his previous stint with Salem Media Group, “The Sage From South Central” hosted from 3-6 PM ET.
