97.5 The Fanatic midday host Bob Cooney has exited the position at the Philadelphia sports station, he shared on Wednesday afternoon.
He had been hosting Middays with Bob Cooney — airing from 10 AM-2 PM. The daypart had previously been hosted by Anthony Gargano until he exited the station as part of a contract dispute with parent company Beasley Media Group last October.
Cooney — who had been at the station since 2017 as part of the morning show, where he worked with both Gargano and John Kincade in the timeslot — took to social media just over an hour after his show ended Wednesday to reveal he would no longer be a part of the lineup.
“Wanted to say thanks to all who listened over the years during my time at The Fanatic. Loved the conversations and getting to know a lot of you,” Cooney wrote. “They told me today they are moving in a different direction.”
The news of Cooney’s exit coincides with statements from former 97.5 The Fanatic afternoon host Mike Missanelli claiming last month the station “made me an offer” to return. His exit also comes on the heels of afternoon host Ricky Bottalico inking an extension with the station that was announced on Tuesday.
Before joining the station in 2017, Bob Cooney had spent the previous 25 years as a sports reporter for the Philadelphia Daily News, covering the Philadelphia Flyers and Eagles, as well as specialty assignments like the World Series and the U.S. Open during his tenure at the newspaper.
