Bill Belichick, the longtime general manager and head coach of the New England Patriots who has won eight Super Bowl championships over his career in the NFL, is beginning new media ventures for the upcoming season. After mutually agreeing to part ways with the Patriots, he has landed several media gigs and reportedly intends to be on the sidelines as a coach in 2025.
Belichick will be featured on Monday Night Football with Peyton and Eli on ESPN2, likely during the early stages of games, while also making weekly appearances on The Pat McAfee Show. Additionally, he will be an analyst on Inside the NFL, the weekly studio program produced by NFL Films and airing on The CW. Along with these weekly ventures, Belichick is also starting a new show with Underdog Fantasy titled Coach with Bill Belichick in which he will serve as its creator and co-producer.
“I partnered with Underdog because Underdog is a sports company run by sports people,” Belichick said. “They want sports to connect with the fans, and that’s what I want to do. I want to find a connection to the fans where I give the fans what they’ve asked me for in terms of content.”
The program will feature Belichick breaking down film, bringing viewers into the manner through which he synthesizes data and tendencies akin to as if he was coaching a football team. Elements of the show will include behind-the-scenes information, the processes behind decision making within organizations and analyzing schematics and personnel in the game.
“It’s going to be a serious show for serious fans with the greatest mind in the history of the sport,” Liz Marro, chief marketing officer of Underdog Fantasy, said in a statement. “We’ve been building out our media network – which now has the fifth-largest daily sports show – and this is going to take us to another level. We are talking about the greatest coach in the history of football, maybe any sport, he could have gone anywhere. And he chose to come here to build his signature show because he sees what other smart people see: we are doing something different and better than others. We are just getting started.”
Tim Livingston has been named the executive producer of the show, who oversees the development of Underdog’s media network and has created and produced various projects. One of these ventures includes Gil’s Arena, a program hosted by Gilbert Arenas and produced by Underdog, which is the fifth-largest daily sports show when counting viewers across all platforms in the United States. The network recently passed more than 1 million total YouTube subscribers and is currently on pace to attain 750 million YouTube views this year.
Belichick expressed that the partnership was “a great fit” in the alignment of both himself and Underdog Fantasy in that they want to bring fans discussion about the conversations that take place within the game of football and how decisions are made. The program, which is branded as an “unfiltered deep dive into all things NFL,” will premiere before the start of the 2024 NFL season and air on YouTube as the first and only original program that is created and hosted by Belichick.
“I’m really looking forward to the opportunity to work with Underdog and their producers,” Belichick said, “and they’ve given me the opportunity to give the fans what they want, and that’s my goal.”
