CBS News has announced that CBS Evening News will move to New York after the departure of Norah O’Donnell, with John Dickerson, Maurice DuBois, and Margaret Brennan filling the anchor chair.
While the program will move to New York, Brennan will continue to be based in Washington D.C. and will lead coverage from the nation’s capital during breaking news situations.
“With Norah’s decision, we began reimagining and redesigning the Evening News. The strength of CBS News has always been in its ensemble of journalists, both in front of and behind the camera, and our goal with John, Maurice, Margaret, and Lonnie at the Evening News is to elevate the best in their fields every night for our viewers,” said CBS News President Wendy McMahon. “In addition to this ensemble team, we look forward to welcoming 60 Minutes correspondents to file for the CBS Evening News when they have news to break; for decades this was routine, so it will be again.”
The 56-year-old Dickerson has served as a fill-in anchor for O’Donnell, in addition to his work as CBS This Morning anchor alongside Gayle King and former Face the Nation moderator. He was also previously the chief Washington correspondent for the network, and served as the political director of CBS News since joining the network in 2009. He has also contributed to 60 Minutes during his tenure.
Maurice DuBois, 58, has reported for CBS Sunday Morning during his tenure, in addition to reporting for 60 Minutes Sports. He, like Dickerson, has filled in for O’Donnell on the CBS Evening News, and has also hosted CBS Mornings and 48 Hours during his time with the network.
Additionally, Lonnie Quinn has been named the chief weathercaster for the program.
60 Minutes executive producer Bill Owens has been named the new supervising producer for CBS Evening News.
“Bill Owens is one of the industry’s most successful and respected journalists. 60 Minutes and the CBS Evening News are two of our most important franchises that help guide the editorial conscience of our news organization,” said McMahon. “We’ve acknowledged the power of coming together to create our future, and harnessing our most powerful franchises and leaders is how we win and better serve the audience. 60 Minutes is of course the gold standard in journalism, and the importance of the Evening News as our flagship evening broadcast cannot be overstated. Bill will be instrumental in shaping the future of both broadcasts, while also enhancing our editorial capabilities and decision-making across CBS News and Stations.”
