Jeff Rickard Named Sports Format Captain at Radio One

Jeff will now oversee programming for WFNZ in Charlotte and The Fan in Indianapolis.

Jeff Rickard has earned a promotion. WFNZ’s program director and midday host has been named Sports Format Captain at Radio One. The role includes oversight of both WFNZ in Charlotte and 93.5/107.5 The Fan in Indianapolis.

Rickard maintains a home in Indy and has been going back and forth between both cities since becoming PD at WFNZ in May 2022. A number of people at the Indianapolis station have worked with Rickard before so familiarity should benefit all involved.

It’s a return to his former station for Rickard, who hosted and programmed at The Fan from 2015 to 2021 before leaving for Boston to lead WEEI. The station at that time was owned and operated by Emmis Communications. It was sold to Radio One in 2022.

Respected programmer David Wood had been pulling triple duty for the cluster, managing WIBC, the Indiana News Network, and The Fan in addition to working on podcasting initiatives. The move allows him to focus on the company’s dominant and important news properties while working alongside a former colleague who he’s had a good relationship with.

Rickard is expected to start his new role on Monday August 3rd. An announcement went out internally this week.
