Report Says Danny Parkins Could Join New FOX Sports 1 Lineup

"According to my sources, FS1 executives believe First Things First star Nick Wright is the future of the network."

Back in April Colin Cowherd had 670 The Score host Danny Parkins as a guest on his podcast. In the introductory segment before he welcomed Parkins to the show, Cowherd said about Parkins, “A really talented guy. I really hope you will listen to the next hour with Danny Parkins, Chicago radio host. And the most talented sports talk radio host I think out there right now at his age…” With Skip Bayless having done his final show for FOX Sports 1 last week, changes are forthcoming and one name that has been mentioned is Parkins.

In a story from Front Office Sports’ Michael McCarthy, he names two people the network is high on with Parkins being one of them and the other being another Syracuse grad and a good friend of Parkins, Nick Wright. Wright is a current member of the First Things First show which airs daily from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. ET.

Following Cowherd’s praise of Parkins on his podcast, he was tapped to fill in on Cowherd’s TV show for two shows on July 8 and 9. Following his time on the show, Parkins said, “It was incredible. It was a bucket-list thing. I mean, he is one of the best sports radio hosts in the history of the medium. The show is a massive operation. Their crew is great. By far, the biggest platform that I’ve ever fronted. It was really, really cool.”

McCarthy says in his story, “I’m hearing FS1 could completely revamp its current lineup, canceling Bayless’s Undisputed, moving talent around to different or new shows…” and “According to my sources, FS1 executives believe First Things First star Nick Wright is the future of the network.”

Something else of note for FS1, which McCarthy mentions in his piece, is that Colin Cowherd’s contract expires early next year. With the success of his The Volume platform, many have wondered if Cowherd will choose to sign another contract or go out on his own. That same conversation is being had about Stephen A. Smith with ESPN, whose contract is also expiring soon.
