98.5 The Sports Hub’s Felger & Mazz has been a ratings juggernaut in Boston for years. Colin Cowherd believes there’s a reason for that, as he called it the best local show he’s ever heard.
During The Herd with Colin Cowherd Wednesday, the nationally syndicated host gave major props to the Boston afternoon show.
“That’s the show I listen to when I’m vacationing out east,” Cowherd said.
“When you’re on vacation you listen to sports talk radio?” Jason McIntyre questioned.
“I take notes,” replied Cowherd. “What are you talking about? Yes, I listen. In the afternoon, I turn it on. I’ll turn it on on NESN (sic). I’ll turn it on during the heat of the day, and a lot of times I’ll turn it on, and then about 4:30 I’ll pour a cocktail and we’re ready to roll.”
The television version of Felger & Mazz airs on NBC Sports Boston, not NESN, as Cowherd claimed.
When McIntyre joked that Mike Felger and Tony Massarotti would talk about the Red Sox bullpen, Cowherd quickly corrected him.
“They don’t do that. It’s like a grown-up show … That’s the best local show I’ve ever heard.”
The props from Cowherd comes after Mike Felger called the ratings success for the station and show “unprecedented.” As the station celebrates its 15th anniversary, Felger noted his show with Massarotti hasn’t been beaten in the ratings by WEEI since 2012.
