WCBS 880 hosted a three-hour news special Thursday morning and afternoon detailing its history as the Audacy station prepares to shutter early next week.
From 10 AM-1 PM, the station aired WCBS 880 News: The People, the Moments, and the Events That Shaped Our Lives, which featured a detailed history of some of the biggest moments heard on the New York all-news station since it completely flipped to the all-news format in 1967.
Anchors Wayne Cabot, Paul Murnane, and Brigitte Quinn helmed the news special, with dozens of current and former hosts, reporters, analysts, and contributors appearing in the special.
During the live program, a raucous party atmosphere could be heard in the background at times as staffers both celebrated and eulogized the demise of the venerable news brand.
Despite the shuttering of WCBS Newsradio 880, Audacy will continue to operate sister station 1010 WINS, which, like WCBS, features the all-news format.
The special airing today hosted by Cabot, Murnane, and Quinn will receive encore presentations later this weekend as the station prepares to make way for Good Karma Brands’ ESPN New York, which is set to debut on the signal at 12:01 AM Monday, August 26th.
