Mike Golic: We’ll Never Be Able to Talk About the NFL Too Much

"You cannot have enough ... It's not even close. It rules the roost."

The NFL has become an absolute content behemoth in sports media circles. And Mike Golic believes that isn’t changing anytime soon.

During an appearance on The Dan Patrick Show, the longtime host asked Golic if we’ll ever get to a point where sports fans view the NFL as oversaturated because of its near-constant TV presence.

Golic doesn’t think that day is coming anytime soon.

“I don’t think so. The only day there hasn’t been an actually scheduled game — after Christmas on Wednesday this year — is a Tuesday. There’s been a game on Tuesday because of weather causing a game to be postponed a couple days. But that’s it,” Golic said. “Tuesday is going to be the only day an NFL game hasn’t been scheduled. You cannot have enough. I mean, it is, by far and away, the most popular sport. I remember there were NBA analysts saying, ‘Oh, football playing on Christmas isn’t going to affect the NBA. The NBA is still king on Christmas.’ It’s a joke. I mean, it’s not even close. It rules the roost. And I think college football, quite honestly, is second. But nothing will affect people wanting to watch the NFL. A big reason? You can gamble on it.”

The question from Patrick came after asking the former NFL-turned-radio-star about the possibility of the NFL eventually growing to feature teams based in Europe or other locations outside of North America.

Mike Golic argued that it’s still unlikely to ever take shape, but the league would be interested in such a move because of the added TV window early in the day on Sunday, or on other dates and times that the league doesn’t already occupy.
