The sports media world was shocked to hear the news today that ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, known by most as ‘Woj’, announced his retirement from ESPN and news media today. Woj has accepted a position as the General Manager for the St. Bonaventure men’s basketball program.
Dan Le Batard commented on his show, “I think this is genuinely shocking, because I believe he just signed a nine-figure deal. The information guy is more valuable than he’s ever been. The information guy is made more crazy than ever by the intensity around that job.”
Stephen A. Smith said on First Take, “He has my profound respect. And I just hope that this is a very, very happy move, and I anticipate that it is. Cuz we certainly didn’t ask him to leave, I can assure you of that. This is something that he’s doing of his own volition. So one would surmise that he’s incredibly happy and comfortable with the decision that he’s making.
“And if anybody deserves to be in a position to make this kind of information for the betterment of their quality of life, he would be that individual. I’m happy for him. But I’m sad for us as a network because it’s a devastating loss for us to not have him.”
